Rereading the Warriors series again, I should have started with the three stands alone: Yellowfang’s Secret, Bluestar’s prophecy, and Crookedstar’s promised. There is a nostalgic feel that bring me back to when I first read the first warrior book: Into the Wild. I was so edger to be back in the forest with Firestar that it slips my mind to read the stories of Yellowfang and Bluestar.

Yellowfang’s Secret follow the story of Yellowfang’s life from a kit to a medicine cat. This is not just the whole backstory of Yellowfang but, also tell the story of Raggedstar, Russetfur, and yes Runningnose (I laugh every time I think of that name) and about every other cat has a story to them.
I like how there was an unofficial mention of Bluestar and Yellowfang side of the story when she first meets a young Firepaw.

Yellowfang has always been a complex character and making a book about her is a good step for the series. It makes me understand how she end up being grumpy. Making it sadder for her death.

What I didn't like is that Shadowclan is like the other clans. They hunt and fight differently but, they don't seem to have different custom like to call a clan meeting by saying the words in a different way. It is refreshing to see how Shadowclan view the other three clans. Maybe it the fact that they live close together that they influent each other in the way they live.

I would not recommend this book to start with the Warriors series. I mean you can start with Yellowfang's Secret but, it feels like a ton of info is being dump and you don't feel the complex’s roles that are later play out.
Getting a since of the first six books and then going back to read the stand alone, open the way to better understanding of these characters and how they became who they are when Firepaw join Thuderclan.
