Bone by Bone: Comparing Animal Skeletons por Sara Levine (buddingnaturalist)
buddingnaturalist: This title takes the focus from just teeth to the entire skeletal system and imagines what it would be like if things were not as they are. However, the illustrations on the Levine title may be somewhat more disturbing for younger readers, especially in instances where bones are taken away.… (mais)

Tooth by Tooth: Comparing Fangs, Tusks, and Chompers (Millbrook Picture Books) por Sara Levine (buddingnaturalist)
buddingnaturalist: Both books imagine what it would be like if one did not have human teeth, with the Levine title formatted as a guessing game. However, the illustrations on the Levine title may be somewhat more disturbing for younger readers.

Everyone has lost a tooth before, but what if an animal tooth grew back in its place? This book will teach you some little known facts about different animal's teeth. You might know that Beaver's teeth are long, but did you know that is because they never stop growing? And who knew that Beaver's teeth are orange? I bet you knew that Great White Sharks have sharp teeth, but did you know they get new teeth every one hundred days? That's a lot of teething! You will be excited to learn about elephant, rattlesnake, naked mole rat and vampire bat teeth among others! And you'll get to see some fun drawings that show what you might look like if you had their teeth instead of your own! The author even gives you some tips on taking good care of your teeth so they will last you a lifetime! Other reviews say this book is for grades 1-3, but I find kids in 4th and 5th grades love them too. The facts are fascinating and the illustration are hilarious.

This book is part of the "What If" series and focuses on animal teeth -- specifically in the mouths of human children. This is a fun, colorful, and educational informational book that explores different types of animal teeth and the functions they serve for that animal. At the end, it discusses human teeth. This is appropriate for K-5. ( )

In this fun kids informational book, the author explores what it would be like if a human's teeth were replaced with the teeth of different animals. This book has fun drawings like many children's book but has lots of informational blurbs on each page with fun facts.

"What if You Had Animal Teeth!?" is a fun, factual book for elementary aged children. The book has whimsical illustrations alongside real photos of animals. The book is humorous for kids, but also teaches them about different animals and why their teeth help them in their environment. Some of the animals included are: beaver, great white shark, narwhal, elephant, rattlesnake, naked mole rat, hippopotamus and crocodile. The end of the book discusses why humans have the teeth that they do and why teeth need to be taken care of.

“What if you had Animal Teeth!?” is part of a seven-book collection beginning with “What If You Had Animal” ...eyes, nose, etc. This series is aimed at grades two through five. This book, focusing on animal teeth, is not only fun but quite informative. It cleverly combines real photos of animals with whimsical drawings of children with each adjacent animal’s teeth. Each animal fact, “front teeth are shaped like shovels and are in front of its lips” is paired with “if you had… you could move each tooth, separately.”

One thoughtful feature of the book, that did not go unnoticed, was the diversity in the children depicted as animals. There is even a child in a wheelchair. The book concludes with providing children information about their own human teeth. This book, and series, is a good opportunity to engage children interest in books and reading. ( )
