Fiction. Romance. HTML:

When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gate-crashes a pro-athlete party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL's most beloved quarterback.

While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire, Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and she has more important things to worry about than romance. Like her parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law school.

But when Ryan's rookie teammate attaches himself to Rachael, she ends up cohosting Friday-night dinners for half a dozen football players.

Over pancake brunches, charity galas and Alexander the Great, Rachael realizes all the judgments she'd made about Ryan are wrong. But how can a Midwestern Irish-Catholic jock with commitment problems and an artsy, gun-shy Jewish New Englander ever forge a partnership? Rachael must let down her barriers if she wants real love--even if that opens her up to pain that could send her back into her emotional shell forever.

I picked this up because I love sports related romances and overall it was pretty good. I was annoyed with Rachel a good deal of the time. At first, I really liked her quirkiness but then she would do or say something so ridiculous that it just made her seem like a jerk. And I didn't think Ryan was a great guy most of the time. I wanted more sparks between them I guess. When I compare this to other books in this genre, it falls a little flat. Its not a bad book by any means, and I will probably read the next in the series, but it just isn't great. I wanted more-more romance, more depth of character, etc. It was a fast read and it was good though so if you have the time, this is a good one to add to your list of sports romances. ( )

"5 out of 5 stars!! Two supposed opposites meet unexpectedly and get into a relationship that neither of them are used to but both want desperately to keep! I could not get enough of Ryan & Rachael!!"

I have a soft spot for sports-centric contemporary romance novels and this one didn't disappoint. It was, apparently, marketed as a New Adult novel which targets readers in their early 20s, I guess. The copy editing was terrible and occasionally distracting, but I enjoyed the story of two flawed people coming together. Sometimes things just don't need to be complicated. I also loved this description, "....some Williamsburg hipster in weather-inappropriate scarves" - I will be stealing that. Anyway, this novel just felt fresh while remaining true to its romance roots. My only complaint, besides the poor editing, was that I wanted more football.... ( )

I definitely had some issues while reading this, but it's very compulsive reading. ( )

I enjoyed the tension and antagonism between the main characters. This wasn't always an easy read...both the hero and heroine are filled with pride and prejudice, but as the story went on I found myself fully immersed in their relationship and really rooting for them.

I especially liked the secondary relationships. The friendships seemed real and really brought the story together. ( )
