Rafe has been sent to summer camp, or shall I say, summer school . At least he makes friends, but of course all things go out of hand and everything goes all chaotic and crazy. This middle school aged book is a perfect addition into the popular series. ( )

This book is the third in the Middle school series by James Patterson and it did not disappoint. Rafe, the main character, is excited about going to summer camp until he finds out that it's not just any regular summer camp, it's a summer school camp. He makes friends easily enough with kids in his cabin and his bunkmate. This is a good book for older kids, a just for fun book that could easily be turned into a book report.

Finally. A nice, relaxing, summer vacation. What can go wrong? Rafe discovers the lovely concept of "summer school" meets "sleepaway camp." Rafe can't possibly get in trouble here!

Yeah...just keep telling yourself that. Does Rafe attract trouble? Or is he drawn to it? Either way, trouble and Rafe once against tango in this nice (though inferior to the rest of the series) addition. ( )

I accidentally undertook a project this weekend. I read two middle grade books - one very much aimed at boys, the other [b:The Storybook of Legends|18053786|The Storybook of Legends (Ever After High, #1)|Shannon Hale|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1377633526s/18053786.jpg|25338957], aimed at girls. Neither really transcended their genre or gender, both had not-subtle lessons about doing the right thing in spite of rules, but this was the more interesting and more complex. I really had trouble with the glorification of revenge and the self-centeredness of the hero, but ok...

... ok, this would be good to discuss with a group of kids and see what they think. Are boys really like that? And when a boy goes home from camp early Legend, do his mates just forget about him? Is revenge the best solution? Was there anything else they should have tried? Are all kids who wear glasses smart bookworms?

3.5 stars. No interest in the other books. ( )

Rafe has been sent to summer camp. But this isn't the fun summer camp. This is more like summer school . At least he makes friends with the "muskrats" (The group of kids in his cabin). Things do get suspicious with this angry kid named legend with an unknown past and Normans weird behavior. In the end Rafe finds out Norman actually stays at the camp because of his abusive dad. In the end when Norman gets in trouble and Rafe takes the blame and is sent home instead.

Overall I think this book was okay. What I liked about it was they finally gave Rafe relatable friends and didn't let the story beat him up. I also liked how this story was inspired by the book "Holes". What I didn't like was how the plot was all over the place and didn't follow a plot triangle. (Writing the summary was kind of hard). In conclusion this book redeemed its lower qualities in the series but was all over the place when it came to the plot. ( )
