What can I say about this beautiful book????? I have so many feelings right now that I'm not sure I can articulate all of them coherently to put into a review.

Both Sydney and Ridge are very witty, smart, compassionate, strong but the one best quality that stands out is their honesty. The way they honestly communicate with each other through their eyes, their touch, their texts, their music - I just loved every part of it. I don't think I've ever read a book where the couple talk about feelings so much and I found it so endearing. There is also a love triangle here and that's what made this so much more emotional - no one was really at fault and I loved all of them and I wanted all of them to be happy and it totally broke my heart when it felt like they wouldn't be able to. The side characters are also so interesting and fun and bring some relief from the strong emotions running through the story. The way music is interwoven in this book is excellent and made me very happy (also very weepy) and I suggest everyone to listen to the soundtrack. And I think I have rambled enough because I have no clue what to write anymore other than to say please read this beautiful piece of work. ( )

Colleen Hoover has caught my attention on TikTok several times. Then, one day, my mom and I were going through some of her books, and I found this on her shelf, and she agreed to loan it to me. I have to say, Colleen Hoover is a phenomenal author. This book was an addicting read, and I finished it within three days, while working.

Sydney and Ridge had great chemistry, and the fact that they wanted to respect Maggie by not ending the relationship was very sweet. Also, seeing Sydney trying so hard to be different than those who made her upset was a great thing. I do agree that certain things should have been handled differently, and that the ending was a little rushed. I understand that a few months had passed, but I wish we could have seen a bit more of those months, rather than just be told and see what happened.

There was a bit of spice in the book, but it wasn't over done, as it was only in one scene and it was near the end.

One of my favorite things about this book was the fact that Ridge was deaf. I always love it when authors are diverse in several ways, including blind and deaf. It was handled in a great way and I loved how Ridge had trauma that he was getting over, and how Sydney would always listen and thought he was more than his deafness.

Warren and Bridgette were two of my favorite characters, and I would love to see a spin-off novel centering around them so we can see how their relationship changes. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an addicting romance that was unique. ( )

I love Colleen Hoover's writing. Dialogues in her books flow so naturally and keep my interest. I however have a problem and not liking the plot of this one. ( )

'It's crazy how being held by someone for just a few minutes can forever change how it feels not to be held by him. The second he releases his hold on you, it suddenly feels as if a part of you is missing.'

Plot

Sydney Blake has a perfect life. She's a good student with a steady job, she lives with her best friend, and she has a great boyfriend. She also can't get enough of the music coming from the balcony opposite hers.

All that is about to change however, as on Sydney's 22nd birthday, she discovers that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. Hurt, and left with nowhere to live, Sydney is taken in by the mysterious man behind the music, Ridge Lawson.

Ridge and Sydney start to write music together, and he gives her hope that she can move on from her heartache. But is she just setting herself up for more heartache?

My thoughts

When I found out that Colleen Hoover was writing this standalone novel, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I've read six of her books now, including this one, and I still just can't get enough of her beautiful stories.

I always find that Colleen Hoover's books have something different about them, something that makes them stand out from average Romance and New Adult novels. This book definitely didn't disappoint, as I was in for a big shock with this one.

Sydney is a great character, who's living in what appears to be a perfect life before it's shattered on her 22nd birthday. Luckily for her, Ridge is already looking out for her and takes her in to his apartment. Sydney and Ridge start to write music together, and she helps him to overcome his writer's block. Sydney starts to believe that it's possible for her to move on, until Ridge informs her that he has a girlfriend.

This plays havoc with Sydney's heart, as she's not sure if she's over her ex-boyfriend yet, and certainly didn't think she'd be having these feelings so soon. However, feelings have a nasty habit of popping up when you least expect them.

I really enjoyed this book, just as I expected I would. Colleen Hoover's books are always perfect for curling up with at any time of day and just reading until you have to remember to eat, or sleep, or go to work. Everybody that loves Romance books with a beautiful story should read this right away. ( )

“We try so hard to hide everything we're really feeling from those who probably need to know our true feelings the most.”

This book taught me so much about unconditional love, life and just people in general. My heart always seems to be crushed in every single Colleen Hoover book that I have read and this book is no different. Her writing style just really is unforgettable.

And as a music person I seemed to favor and appreciate this book much more. The idea and theme of this book is also something that I have always had a weakness for. COLLEEN HOOVER just really is an exceptional writer. ( )
