[a: Lyanda Lynn Haupt|16810|Lyanda Lynn Haupt|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1248017975p2/16810.jpg] makes a wonderful case for a change in our own perception - that we ourselves are animals and that coexistance or better husbandry is a far better answer than eradication of wildlife - and even provides a plethora of ideas of just how to coexist and foster a better understanding of the creatures we share our lives, and sometimes unwittingly our homes, with. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and the depths to which it goes to inform the reader about the animals in questions. Haupt does an admirable job of combining the scientific and mythical, anecdotes and folk-wisdom. Each entry within her bestiary offered me not only a new view of common creatures, but also a further understanding of them and myself. I look forward to reading more of Haupt's work, as well as immersing myself within the rather thorough biography in the back of this book. It's no wonder our local wildlife rehabilitation center proudly carries this volume on their reference shelves. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

"From the bestselling author of Crow Planet, a compelling journey into the secret lives of the wild animals at our back door. In The Urban Bestiary, acclaimed nature writer Lyanda Lynn Haupt journeys into the heart of the everyday wild, where coyotes, raccoons, chickens, hawks, and humans live in closer proximity than ever before. Haupt's observations bring compelling new questions to light: Whose 'home' is this? Where does the wild end and the city begin? And what difference does it make to us as humans living our everyday lives? In this wholly original blend of science, story, myth, and memoir, Haupt draws us into the secret world of the wild creatures that dwell among us in our urban neighborhoods, whether we are aware of them or not. With beautiful illustrations and practical sidebars on everything from animal tracking to opossum removal, The Urban Bestiary is a lyrical book that awakens wonder, delight, and respect for the urban wild, and our place within it"-- Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
