The enduring power of love can turn tragedy into triumph This is a stand-alone book that continues the story of Kit MacKlenna's godfather, Elliott Fraser, who was introduced in THE RUBY BROOCH. Meredith Montgomery, the first female president of her family's 160-year-old Napa, California winery, has her hands full with training for a marathon, problem employees, a nosy reporter, and launching a new wine when a health scare wiggles its ugly head again. She takes refuge in Scotland for a working holiday where she meets Thoroughbred breeder Elliott Fraser, CEO of MacKlenna Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Elliott is on crutches, recovering from surgery on his leg. Although she tries to keep her distance and avoid distractions, the sexy Scotsman reels her in and hooks her with entertaining dinner invitations and a trip to his family's castle in the Highlands. After a blissful night together, a crisis on the farm pulls Elliott back to the Bluegrass. When Meredith accepts his invitation to stop for a visit on her return to California, the next domino falls in an explosive chain of events that could threaten not only their hearts but their lives. One careless moment confronts them with a life or death decision that could destroy the MacKlenna family legacy forever (Add to your cart now ) Reviewer's Comments The Last MacKlenna is a great romantic read. You can't help but ooh and ah at the wealth that surrounds strong leads Elliott and Meredith. Lowry Logan elegantly and purposefully gives her readers a great taste of Meredith's life as president of her family-owned vineyard and Elliott's in the high powered world of thoroughbred race horses. These two broken souls fall deeply in love and we root hard for them to overcome their many obstacles. And I would be remiss if I didn't add that this novel comes complete with a gripping mystery--one that will make your heart pound. Along for Meredith and Elliott's journey are a fine group of quirky, strong and loyal characters. The Last MacKlenna is first in Romance. Reviewer's Comments When I first approached Logan's work, I expected to be confronted by a star-trekky series of superficial, time-travel inventions that are ten a penny and simply don't appeal to me at all. How wrong I was. In reality, I found a writer of ingenuity, with a depth of understanding of the human condition and the ability to share it with the reader that far exceeded my expectations. Yes--I have to admit it; that exceeded my expectations of a modern woman and an American woman at that. Her two novels to date, The Ruby Brooch and The Last MacKlenna, both of which I've read and hugely enjoyed, explore the lives of two women, Kit MacKlenna and Meredith Montgomery both of whom face worlds of adversity and come through them thanks to a mixture of such determination and, it has to be said, pig-headedness, that the reader is drawn into their lives and wants them to succeed. Their men, Cullen Montgomery and Elliot Fraser, are developed with a deftness of touch that I once again consider exceptional in a female writer. I feel that Logan is a writer to be read, enjoyed and admired, and having found her voice in her work to date, may well produce a contemporary novel of lasting significance. I shall look forward to that. Scroll up and add to your cart now… (mais)

Meredith and Elliott

Very good romance mystery. Have to say I didn't guess the bad guy until the clue was disclosed very near the end. I liked all the characters, they were believable, even the ghost. A group you'd enjoy working and hanging out with.

It sure would be nice to have a corporate jet like both main characters have. ( )

This is an amazing novel. I read it in two day and loved every single page, every single line, and every single word. The plot was so intense that I couldn’t find a point where I could just put the book down and walk away. I was absolutely captivated.

Everything about this book is perfect. Katherine Logan is one of my favorite authors. I didn’t think she could write something so magic so grasping that would get even close to her first novel “The Ruby Brooch” which by the way was fantastic!!!

However The Last Macklenna did exactly that. It captured my heart and my thoughts in many ways. Elliott is the man that women dream of and woo over when they set eyes on him. Meredith is the epitome of a strong, energetic, smart and loving woman. They are utterly perfect for each other.

What is so fascinating is that both are fighting internal wars that if not for the strength of their individuality and the love for each other, all those issues would have brought them to their knees. I don’t want to give the story away, but I know that I could write a novella just praising Katherine Logan as an author. “The Last Macklenna.” Is captivating, fascinating, charming, enchanting… and I could go on and on. Great job Katherine. Love it!!!! Love it!!!! Love it!!!

Yes, I'm in love with a fictitious character by the name of Dr. Elliott Fraser. Not since Rhett Butler have I found a character so endearing, so arrogant, so loving, so annoying - a truly complex man who is given to the reader bit by bit until by book's end you want to cry because the story is over.

The Last MacKlenna is the prequel to The Ruby Brooch and I must say I don't usually give much thought to prequels. But this one took me by surprise - grabbing me by the collar and throwing the book at me (figuratively). Meredith Montgomery meets Elliott Fraser over the Christmas holiday when each of them escapes from their busy worlds and stay at a B&B in Scotland - one in search of her ancestry and the other there for various reasons. For Elliott it is love at first sight although he mistakes his love for lust. Meredith - a young widow and head of a California winery that's been in her family for generations - see Elliott has a holiday fling, perhaps her last as she has recently been diagnosed with a return of the breast cancer that she beat five years earlier.

What ensues is a cat and mouse game between the two that takes us from Scotland, to Kentucky, to California and back again as we try to keep up with these two corporate jet-setters.

The Last MacKlenna is a love story, a murder mystery, a bit of history, and a throw back to another time and place that will keep the reader guessing until the final pages whether or not its true love for Meredith and Elliott. I couldn't wait to finish the story yet didn't want the story to end. I'm looking forward to The Sapphire Brooch.

If you like Scotland, men in kilts, and whiskey then this book is for you - and even if you don't you'll learn to love them after you read this book. ( )
