A surprising and clever interpretation on the typical "Big Bad Wolf" story this book is a twist on a classic fable. The author uses the two different perspectives of those afraid of the wolf and the "reality" of the wolves actual life. While the people are afraid of the rumored "BIG BAD WOLF" the actual wolf is at home having dinner with his wolf family. The illustrations throughout the story are absolutely needed in the success of the story. For example the people say," BIG BAD WOLD has pointy ears and shiny eyes!" as you turn the page it says, "He did", the illustration is the wolf laying in a nonthreatening position, but still possessing the features described earlier. The success of the book is also due to the age appropriate use of language for the age group it is intend for though simple sentences, words and language supported images to create the feelings intended to be displayed in the text. Everything the villagers know about Big Bad Wolf is true and every time something frightening happens they are sure he is behind it, but there is more to the story. I like how this book has flaps to look under because it makes the book more engaging and interesting.
