This book is good for a primary age group, or anyone that appreciates incredible art. "Fossil" is about a boy and his dog at the lake for a day, where they discover fossils that break to release living models - first ferns, then a dragonfly and a pteranodon. The dog is taken away on the back of the pterosaur, and the boy discovers he can make the organisms go away by breaking the fossils. I think the art is incredible, and as lovely as a boy's imagination is, I think it's an odd message to have him break these very cool, mostly intact fossils, so I don't think I would use this in my classroom.

This is an interesting little picture book where a boy finds a magical fossil. It encourages children to use their imaginations in order to tell the story as it unfolds. ( )

This book is primarily targeted for young children, ages kindergarten through second. This book tells the story of a boy and his dog who find a fossil on a hike. He breaks the fossil into two pieces and they come to life, he is then faced with the obstacle of getting things back to normal. I think this would work great in my classroom to spark creativity and imagination.

I love Fossil. I think its extremely interesting for students to read and many would enjoy this. A boy trips over a rock which cracks open resulting in him finding a fossil. It then comes to life. He splits more open causing more things to come to life. He eventually brakes a fossil open with a tetradactyl. He creature ends up flying off with the boys dog. The boy has to find a way to get back his dog. This book could be used for problem solving and plot exploration. It could also be used to spark students creativity. Students could use their imaginations to come up with other things that could be found in fossils. I really liked this book because it could be used in many different ways. ( )

It was interesting to see the two main characters, a boy and his dog, hunting for fossils and seeing the fossils come to life. One example of this is a huge dragon-fly coming to life and the boy's face looks shocked. Another example of this is a terradactyl fossil coming to life and picking up/carrying the dog before letting him go. ( )
