Bella Rossini, a vivacious college junior, is suddenly thrust into living in Tuscany with seven strangers during one life-altering summer. Meet Hope, the sturdy and practical girl, steadfast in her loyalty to her boyfriend; Meghan and Karen, identical twins with an eye for fashion and beauty to match; Stillman, haunted by his hard past, and Phillip, an athlete, both fueled by competition; Lee, by family mandate in pre-med; and Rune, the Hollywood-bound wild child. Returning to Tuscany 30 years later, they plunge on a startling collision course that none of them could have predicted. I love, love, love this book.

The story takes us from the initial meeting and forging or friendships during a semester abroad in Tuscany. Descriptions of the scenery/sights, as well as the characters are beautiful.
I found each person to be unique and three-dimensional. They meet as college age kids, and go through some of the misunderstandings and heartbreaks of that age, all of them written with heart
We get snapshots of their lives over the next 30 years, and end up during a reunion in Tuscany.

I liked the end, I found the story real, heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

After reading this, I will look for more books by Gail Mencini. ( )

I thought that this book was a great one and made me think of Under the Tuscan Sun. The imagery was great!

I am glad I pushed through to the end. There were a lot of characters all introduced at once and I felt like a ping pong ball going back and forth between them. I had to go back, even half way through the book, to just get some characters straight. The concept of the book was a good one, though the result was a bit too confusing to follow at many points. The author did a great job making me feel like I was in Tuscany. I question a need for all the "hook ups", made even more confusing because I couldn't keep the characters straight. I think the cover is great - I like the physical look and feel of this book, and would have pulled it off the shelf in a library or store. ( )
