[Publisher's Preface] It is with great excitement that we publish this volume of the Exegetical Guide to the Greek New Testament series.
[General Introduction] Studying the New Testament in the original Greek has become easier in recent years.
[Introduction] The opening verse of 1 Peter claims that the epistle was authored by Peter the apostle, and in 5:1 the author claims to have been a "witness (μαρτυς) of the sufferings of Christ."
This is a typical Hellenistic epistolary opening identifying the author and recipients together with a customary greeting.

[General Introduction] Together we share the conviction that "all Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking for correcting, for training in righteousness" (2 Tim 3:16 HCSB) and echo Paul's words to Timothy: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn't need to bee ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15 HCSB).
Consequently, the letter concludes with a definitive statement of solidarity with Jesus Christ, both in terms of present suffering and the promise of future vindication and unsurpassed glory.
