I need to reread this with my reread of [b:The Winner's Curse|16069030|The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, #1)|Marie Rutkoski|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1377023523s/16069030.jpg|21861552] as I am afraid some of the details were lost on me..it's been several months now. I adore Arin so getting these exchanges with his mother were the highlight. ( )

Seeing Arin as a child is, perhaps, the most intimate moment a reader can have with him. Protected from the harsh reality of the world by his parents (in this short story, mother in particular), our 8 year old Arin is still vulnerable, gentle and innocent. He's still loved and nortured. It's hard to imagine that some months later he'll be forced to turn the most tragic and cruel page of his life. ( )

Simple, sweet, and lovely. I enjoyed the look into Arin's childhood, and his family. The lore is interesting. ( )

Short and beautiful. I need The Winner's Crime... now! ( )
