The Prisoner’s Wife by Susan Page Davis (2006)
Maine 1720
Jack Hunter’s father left behind a less than stellar legacy. Many therefore assumed like father like son; however, Jack was not like his father. He worked hard on the farm and dedicated himself to the Lord. When arrested for a crime that brought the death penalty, he hastily marries in order to pass the land to the woman he loves. Strange things are occurring on the farm where Lucy lives and works. Readers will become engrossed in the mystery, romance as well as the time and setting of the tale. I loved it!
Love’s Raid by Darlene Franklin (2011)
Vermont 1864
Being interested in courting someone as told in this story reminds me of playing cat and mouse. Here Daniel is the town constable after coming home wounded from the war. Clara is the daughter of a well known and well beloved man who had resided for many years in the same town as Daniel prior to his death. Now Clara is seeking to fulfill her dream of owning and running an all girl’s school in Vermont. Daniel is currently trying to solve a bank robbery while living in the family mansion all alone. Mystery, suspense and sprinkled with romance create a good mix that makes a great tale!
Michaela’s Choice by Lisa Harris (2004)
Boston 1881
Michaela is young widowed woman who misses her husband and little girl every day. Once in a while she has nightmares still of the fateful night. Now, two men are sure they are in love with her, but she is afraid to open her heart again to love. She also finds it hard to let the past go and begin living and looking towards the future. Since the night of the tragedy her relationship with God has been strained, and the conflict in her heart cannot be settled without God. The back and forth indecision of Michaela as to which man she might marry will keep you reading for a while.

All that Glitters by Lynette Sowell (2009)
1895 Newport Rhode Island
When you read the title, All that Glitters, does it remind you of any saying like all that glitters is gold? Perhaps yes, perhaps no; either way this story is about a time when young women were expected to enter into arranged marriages. In the tale, high society depends on news regarding people, businesses and the past. Whether the news was truthful or not was another matter. Read about a fiery young women determined to obey her parents and the Lord but trapped because she loved another. A fun read to be sure along with not knowing exactly how the author would bring a happy ending or if there was to be one!
In Search of a Dream by Pamela Griffin (2010)
1937 Connecticut
Joel’s heritage was not noteworthy as his father died in prison, but being in a home called Refuge his present was looking bright. Shortly after serving in the Navy, Joel simply seemed to vanish without any contact with friends or family. Then one summer a young woman comes to stay with a friend and walks out the friend’s back door to run into a man who looked like a hooligan. With love, prayers and perseverance, Clemmie opens the eyes of one man’s heart.
