I should have listened to other reviewers who advised skipping this volume, but I figured that even if it wasn't as spectacular as the main series, it would still be an okay read. Unfortunately, I didn't really find it added much to the series. While knowing some of the backstory was interesting, nothing was truly vital. ( )

The plotlines of this collection of four issues of the PrinceLess comic book series written by Jeremy Whitley and seventeen other artists, bound together in graphic novel format falls somewhere between numbers 2 and 3 in the graphic novel series numbering. While it’s marketed as “short stories,” it would make more sense to count it as PrinceLess number 2½, PrinceLess number 2.5, or PrinceLess number 2 part 2.

It’s in the last story in this volume that the reader is introduced to Raven Xingtao, who will feature prominently as the Pirate Princesses of graphic novel number 3 and becomes the central character in her own series. It also begins the adventures of young prince Devin Ashe (spelled without the final e in his first appearance) and his traveling companion Kira, a werewolf, as well as the Prince Wilcome of Lumderia and his traveling companion, a female elf named Tempest. All their stories are continued in subsequent issues. And there are backstories on Princess Adrienne and her sidekick, the unusually tall half-dwarf, Bedelia. Adrienne and her dragon Sparky are featured on the front cover. ( )

This is from different artists, and I appreciate the good experimentation, but I prefer the originals. This book does provide some good back and side stories. ( )

I have never really read a true graphic novel before and was getting quite caught up in some of the stories. It makes me want to pick up the next edition to see what happens next! This series is a great way to expose female students to some strong female lead characters.
