A really interesting series for children to discover and learn some facts about living in a variety of countries around the world. Very easy to read, with fun things to learn such as national dishes a child that lives there would eat. A good choice to open your child's mind to learning about the Portuguese culture. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a book that follows along I the same way the author’s other books do. In Portugal you learn the capital, what your parents are called, popular boy and girl names. The author always talks about where you would go on vacations and what you would see. My favorite part is learning about some of the foods you would eat. These are great books for getting children interested in learning about other countries. If You Were Me and Lived in…Portugal – an Introduction to Learning About Other Cultures by Carole P. Roman is another in this educational series for children Pre-K to age eight. This series teaches children about their peers around the world. It answers questions that children would ask. What do you play with? What do you like to eat? What do you call your parents? Where would you go for fun? What kind of holidays do you celebrate? The illustrations are bright and colorful and portray the story well. There is a two-page pronunciation guide in the back of the book for words and phrases. What fun this would be for preschools or early grades for learning about the world! I can see it being used in a classroom setting with children dressing up, learning about a specific country, and then giving a presentation to the class using the words learned in the book. I love the cover and Carole P. Roman has the series "If you were me and lived in....(PORTUGAL)." An introduction to learning about other cultures. This is my second book in her series and I'd buy all of them and I am a 47 year old female. This is a great series for moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers, children 3-8 years old for sure. "If you were me and lived in Portugal your favorite vacation would have to be a trip to the Azores (a-zor-ahs). The Azores is a chain of nine volcanic islands and a natural paradise. They are a habitat for marine animals and seabirds. Whales and dolphins can be found there. You might like to scuba dive, or hike on the many mountain trails." "This pro active book invites children to think about Portugal's many wonders from the sunny Azores to the wide variety of food. Roman's If You Were Me books have a simple, winning formula: portray children from other countries and explain how familiar items and customs are the same, and how they differ, in the country being discussed... The appeal of Roman's If You Were Me series is that this information is not offered in the bland style of an encyclopedia entry, but rather as part of a tour of real life in India... It's this organic conversational tone that keeps the book interesting and inspires kids' own curiosity for other cultures." Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

I enjoy these books as an adult, even though they are for children. They give just the right amount of information. It does not overload your brain and makes you curious for more about the country. So for me, it is a nice introduction to read before I read an adult book about the history of Portugal.
I have done a few reviews from this series and there is a formula the author uses to teach about countries. Not a bad thing just an observation. I did feel like this book did more questions like “Do you know what this Portuguese word means?”. At first, my brain came up with many answers and confusion because... I forgot there is a glossary of the meaning of words in the back of the book. Doh!
I still think these are great books and really helpful for children and adults. ( )
