I can see where this book was a challenge to write because Waite just lived a life and did what every man with great character does. Gets up works hard everyday, and shares is talents and wealth with others. There is a sadness that this has become a big deal for a man to do. Every man should live the golden rule and be like Waite Phillips. ( ) This book tells the basic life story of Waite Phillips, from his boyhood onward, including his work in the oil industry and real estate, as well as his philanthropy, particularly as it relates to his committment to the Boy Scouts. There is an unsetteld character to Philips life and as one thing came together he seemed to want to move on to the next thing. This may be related to the death of his twin brother in their early twenties. To that point they had been inseperable and one wonders what they may have acheived had they lived through adulthood together. Another thing this book could explore further is the impact Phillips had, and continues to have, on thousands of young men each year that benefit directly from his generosity to the Boy Scouts. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
Founder of Phillips 66 and Phillips empire.
Waite Phillips and his identical twin Wiate were born toan Iowa farm family in 1883. Sixteen years later the twins left home together to seek their fortunes in the west-but only one boy returned.Carrying the lost brother always in memory, Waite Phillips went on to a lifetime of adventures, played out on the raw, new oilfields of 1920s Oklahoma, the boardrooms of fledgling companies, and the hills of New Mexico ranchland he loved. As an oil man and philanthropist, his impact is still felt widely. Phillips was a man of conscience and honor, he was a builder and a family man, but he was also a wanderer and a gambler whose eyes were always on the farther hill. This is his story.
