I stopped about halfway through this one, and have just never returned to it. I'm glad others liked it. It just isn't for me. ( )

How can a fifth book in a series still be so fresh - the plot so unpredictable and full of wonderful twists and turns that pull you even deeper into the story?

That ending was PERFECTION. It made me go all gooey.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous books, but it was okay. For ages now it seems they've been "hinting" about a plot point and then having the characters repeatedly just dismiss all the evidence of it. And it was starting to drive me batty, like being pressured to pretend something blatant is actually a very mysterious secret... Finally they just came out with it already though. Thank goodness. There was also a relationship aspect that's been showing up in each book and it was starting to get really tedious as well, and they finally addressed it also! So although those weren't fun topics for this book to really focus on, it does at least give me hope for the future books that maybe we won't have to keep retreading this old ground moving forward. The main character became kind of off-putting for a while also, but I actually have more hope for him as well. So there's definitely a silver lining. There were some other positive outcomes too, that I can't name without spoiling them, but that also feel like an improved setup for future books. So although this one wasn't a favorite, overall I'm hopeful for the series, so I'm quite okay with it. ( )

I enjoyed it, but Whyborne was so frustrating I just wanted to smack him... and because I couldn't, I had to take long breaks from the story. ( )
