I originally checked out this book for my Multicultural Text Set but after reading it, I decided to include it in this log. This book discussed different ways that people get/buy their food and groceries, and about how to maintain a healthy diet. Each page has a paragraph of information about food or nutrition but the pictures also contain the story of a family as they do their shopping, cook their food, and eat it. Younger students would enjoy this book for the pictures and story with the teacher reading it aloud and older students would enjoy reading the information on their own. The main idea of this story is that maintaining a healthy diet is a key component to overall health and one can do that by keeping the information from the text in mind when grocery shopping. I think this book is an extremely important read as childhood obesity continues to be a concern in the U.S. ( )

The family in the story visits their local farmers market and neighborhood garden to gather food for a picnic later that day.

This book provides children with a lot of information about how to keep their body healthy and what it needs to function properly and for them to feel good. The book's focus is on eating the right foods, especially fruits and vegetables, but there are illustrations and brief text that also encourages the children to get exercise. It also provides children with information about the importance of water in their diet and eating sugary foods and drinks in moderation, if at all. The book is written with text that is slightly more complex and formal, and each page includes a dialogue between the brother and sister in a more casual format but covers the most important points about the formal text. The illustrations show a very active, healthy family making good choices for their bodies which can encourage children to do the same, even if not all the text is understood.
Media: digitally created
Genre: Picture book, informational book ("water helps all parts of our bodies work well. Water leaves our bodies when we pee, poop, or sweat.") ( )

A good overview of eating healthy for kids. The message is kind of propagandized but the information that they give is solid. ( )
