Blessed with an innate optimism and a magical childhood, Elisabeth Belle Sterling discovers that the path to happily-ever-after love is not as easily obtained as she had always imagined. The Camelot-like love she longs for seems like only a dream until she meets the handsome Kincaid Patterson, a West Point graduate who carries a dark secret from his past. It seems most of my fictional reading is either set in the present day or during WWI or WWII. But, this lovely story set in the south during the 60's and 70's captured my heart. It's lesson on having faith in all circumstances reminded me that you can overcome even the most difficult of tragedies and still find joy.

Elisabeth was raised by loving parents in the panhandle of Florida. Since I love this area and have traveled there often, it was easy to imagine the places, the weather, and the culture of the people in this story. After some relationship failures, Elisabeth finally meets her prince charming, Kincaid, a graduate of West Point and well-respected in the military. Elisabeth is an elementary teacher and loves building her life with Kincaid. But, not everything is picture perfect for them. Eventually, Kincaid is sent to Vietnam to serve in the war and life is forever changed for the two of them. Elisabeth shares her struggles in letters to Kincaid and the reader sees Elisabeth experience joy, heartbreak, successes, and the love of friendship.

The letters Elisabeth wrote to Kincaid were my favorite part of this whole story. Her personality, naivety, and zest for life showed through each letter. But I wish there had been letters from Kincaid to her as part of the story. I am quite sure her letters to him were a salvation during his time in Vietnam.

This story is elegant, romantic, sweetly old-fashioned, and one that you could share with your grandmother. Elisabeth inspires us to find the good, stay strong in adversity, and remember to stay positive. You will laugh and cry and be sad their story is over when you reach the last page. Olivia deBelle Byrd is a witty and talented writer! ( )

The book starts with Elisabeth being dumped and deciding to become an old maid. She then applies to he University of Georgia to get a masters degree in education. Then she meets Kincaid and her old maid idea flies out the window.

The author writes in a style that makes you feel like these people are your friends. I loved all the characters, especially Elisabeth and Kincaid. The love they felt for each other was immense, and they also loved the people in their lives very deeply.

The book is full of emotions. It’s funny, sad and also heartbreaking. It shows how love can conquer all, and bring people who have been torn apart by a tragedy, back together. And, you’ll have to read the book to find out the special meaning of the title, Save My Place.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a bit of romance, relationships, or southern fiction. It’s a short book and I read it rather quickly, but it left a huge impact on me and is one I would like to re-read in the future.

This book is one of my favorites of 2015, as is her 1st book, Miss Hildreth Wore Brown: Anecdotes of a Southern Belle. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.

Thanks to the author for this review copy, and for being so patient with me while I was trying to catch up on reviews. ( )

“Save My Place” by Olivia deBelle Byrd is a wonderful and beautiful love story. Giving this book five stars was easy for me to give as I enjoyed the story and the characters a lot. The author wrote the story beautifully and with so much talent. It’s a love story that once it has been read will be remembered over and over. Olivia deBelle Byrd out done herself with this book and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

The story itself is well thought out and the characters wrote so that the story flows with them to the end. It’s a page turner and an attention grabber from the beginning. I can easily say that I am recommending this book to any romance reader, or romantic at heart to enjoy. After reading this book I can honestly say it has taken place at my top fifteen favorite romance reads. ( )

A short novel that packs a lot of story into its 150 pages. A love story that takes place in a sweeter slower era that is entering a new age...
Full skirts, loafers and dreams of love and marriage morphed into the age of Aquarius and Vietnam while Kincaid and Elizabeth exerience the ups and downs of the times while maintaining their relationship. For a while its is letter writing that holds them together when he is shipped overseas...and she ends each one with 'your place is saved'.
A heart-warming trip back in time.
My favorite quote hit the spot: "There was a door inside of me, and in my mind,it was a magic door that kept all the ills of the world at bay. From time to time the door would open a bit as an ill would try to escape, but i always managed to ignore it until i finally pushed it back inside and safely closed the door." Reminded me of me...
