My favorite part about this book is the illustrations. They are very colorful and lively. There is a lot of action and movement in the illustrations and they help further explain the text. I also liked the language the book uses. The author includes many different adjectives to describe the dogs. For example, the text says, “Spotty dogs, wrinkly dogs, dotty dogs, crinkly dogs.” These adjectives are accompanied with a picture so readers can better understand them. I also liked that the author used repetition and rhyme in the writing. This creates a rhythm that allows for the writing to flow. For example, the text says, “Dogs that wag tails, dogs that chew bones. Dogs in big houses, dog without homes.” Something I didn’t like about the book was that I found the layout of the words somewhat confusing. Some sentences are spread out across two pages. They do not stay on one line. I found this a little confusing and hard to follow. I would say the main message of this book is that dogs come in all shapes and sizes. However, we love them all the same. I believe the main message is used to show that differences are ok and welcomed. This rollicking book is filled with the exuberant joy of a boy who loves dogs. While spending the day at the park, the boy meets every type of dog imaginable. There are dogs that are spotty, dotty, wrinkly, crinkly... and many, many more! Will this little boy ever find the perfect dog for him? I highly recommend this book for all dog-loving kids!
