It has its moments, but an overall average read. Nothing beats the battle between Superman and Doomsday from my childhood. (

Well, this was epic, to be sure. But it was all over the place: Superman is fighting Doomsday, he is Doomsday and is fighting General/Senator Lane, he's fighting Doomsday in his head, wait, Doomsday is an anti-hero and we are now fighting Brainiac. And somehow Lois has the telepathic ability to beat Brainiac at his own game. Or something.

And what's with the Supergirl story thrown in at the end that really had nothing to do with Doomsday at all? (

While initially this is an intriguing spin on the original Death of Superman story, I quickly lost interest. It devolves pretty quickly into a lot of punching in space, loosely linked together by uninspired dialog used for exposition. It's hard to get into an epic battle when you don't really care about the players. Yes, it's obvious who the heroes are, but I should still want to root for them.

Aaron Kuder, who did the cover of this collection, is a great artist and his work shines throughout, but of course since this is a crossover involving several books, there are many weaker artists on display as well. It might not have been so bad, but after you view a polished page by Kuder, you miss him when he goes away. (
