Though I had been putting this book off for a long time, I finally got around to reading it, and I don't regret it one bit. For some reason, I just couldn't get through the first chapter through the dog's point of view, but once I did, oh man. I couldn't stop reading it. You guys know I love books about aliens, and this story is so cute and heart wrenching I enjoyed it so much. Check out my full review here! https://radioactivebookreviews.wordpress.com/2020/10/16/from-a-distant-star-by-k... I was up in the air about reading this one, so I went to the audiobook and my feelings were confirmed... it was OK. 17 year old Emma is the main character and is the girlfriend of Lucas, who is dying of cancer. There are rumors around town about an old lady who has magic potions that may actually work. Emma convinces the woman to give her a potion to heal Lucas. Unbeknownst to Emma that a spaceship is struck by a missile and crashes near Lucas' house. Lucas recovers but is acting strange. Is it the potion or does it have something to do with the spaceship? The story is ultimately about love, devotion and all that is good and bad about human nature. It was funny at times and thankfully it was not overly romantic. The audiobook narrator, Kate Rudd, was fantastic. It was OK. From a Distant Star is a type of genre I’m still just getting familiar with. I’m not one to read much about aliens (it’s scary to think that there might actually be other life elsewhere that we know absolutely nothing about — also that it’s practically inevitable that we may come in contact with them, if we haven’t already). I have to be completely honest, at first, I wanted to give this book a 3-gear rating because of some key flaws that were close to turning me off from the book... (more via website) I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. From a Distant Star was a good book. It’s a fast and enjoyable read. I didn’t want to put it down. I flew through the first 70 or so pages and probably would have read it in one sitting if I hadn’t been getting a headache. I just wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. I did have some problems with it. Some things just seemed too easy or predictable. Plus there is this whole thing about Emma never having kids because her boyfriend is infertile. I mean there are options out there. There is more than one way you can become a parent. You can still have kids someday. Other than those little issues, I thought it was a good book and I can’t wait to read more by Karen McQuestion. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

But when she finds an unidentifiable object on his family's farm--and government agents come to claim it--she begins to suspect that nothing is what it seems. Oh my god! This is so awesome! A went through so many emotions with this book! The ending was perfect!
It's about an eighteen year old guy, Lucus, who is at home with end stage cancer. His girlfriend, Emma, who has stayed by his side and has high hopes he will make it. The boy's mother doesn't like the girl despite her being very bright and caring. She lives in a trailer with no father.
Emma goes to the local witch and asks for a cure. The same night Emma uses the cure on Lucus, an object falls from the sky and lands in the backyard. A being hitches a ride on the dog then goes into Lucus. Lucus begins a fast recovery.
The problem is, Emma and Lucus' brother isn't fooled. Neither is the dog. Something is not right with Lucus. The being needs help if he is to get home. He decides to trust Emma and his brother with the truth. The rest of the book is running from the different agencies that are trying to kill Emma and kidnap Lucus.
Great suspense. Terrific characters, plot, dialogue, emotional connections, and character growth. It's heartwarming, sad, loving, happy, uplifting, suspenseful, and a hopeful book! The ending made it perfect! Highly recommend!
