I received a copy of The Pilgrim Way, A Companion Guide for the Cross Country Cyclist by Neil Hanson as a Library Thing preview. The guide is an easy read, and if it's any indication of the style of the original book, it's a candid conversation between the author and reader on a cycling life. Hanson uses this travel diary companion to chart the route and modalities he uses to complete the cross-country journey and provides insights along the way.
Hanson, a self-described student of architecture, shares natural landscape imagery that skillfully connects his touring experience to the ethereal visions he experienced from a cyclist's handlebar. I enjoyed the deft quotes used throughout the companion guide. I enjoyed this book.
Although I have not read the original work, the companion volume provides valuable information to prepare for the ride and piques the reader's interest in Hanson's complete Pilgrim Wheels journey. ( )
