It is about a young girl who does not want her parents to open their Chinese store on the Fourth of July. However, many people end up wanting Chinese food, and they sell a lot of it. In the end, the girl and her family watch the fireworks while eating apple pie. This book would be great to have in a classroom of elementary schoolers because they can learn about the different foods and cultures that this book shows. ( ) A first-generation Chinese-American girl tries to tell her parents that no one will eat Chinese food on the Fourth of July, but the good smells from their store lure customers later in the day. After they've sold all their Chinese food, the family goes up on the roof to eat apple pie and watch the fireworks (invented in China). Read for AAPI Heritage Month (May) but would be excellent for a summer storytime as well. This book would be appropriate for all ages but better for older elementary aged children because there is connections from different cultures. This book is about this little girl and her family who are Chinese and own a convenient store. They sell Chinese food there and she thinks that because it is the 4th of July no one would want Chinese food. But, at the end of the book people flood the store wanting Chinese food. In "Apple Pie 4th of July", the main character is dreading having to have her family store open on the fourth of July. After a pretty slow business day, she makes a claim of "No one wants Chinese food on the fourth of July". I would recommend this book for primary grades, with third grade being the sort of end/edge of the grouping. The pictures in the book make for what I'm sure would be a really good read a loud for students. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
