I have always thought of it as characters meet fall in love and live happily ever after. But a new crop of authors is giving their own spin to the fairy tale. Sabrina York is the latest author that I have discovered making this genre her own. Mixing action, romance and well written characters she kept me interested until the book was done. Hannah is a lass that knows who she is and is not afraid to let that shine through. Alexander is every inch the tormented hero with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hannah and the Highlander is a story full of spirit, triumph and adventure. The story speaks for itself. As I enter the third month of #Droughtlander (state of being as I await the second season of #Outlander TV series, which is on hiatus until Spring 2016) I’m realizing that my Kindle is getting filled with all these Highlander stories, and this one just happens to be right on top. I’ve never read Sabrina York before, and this was such a great book that I’ll be happy to check her backlist and see if I can find a few more stories by her. It appears that this is the first book in her brand new series Untamed Highlanders and this story is of an interesting romance between Hannah and Alexander. Hannah is a very strong character and I liked the fact that she was a capable woman who did her best to take care of the household and her family. She doesn’t see herself as beautiful as her sisters are, but she longs to be loved for herself and not her dowry. Enter Alexander Lochlannach, Laird of Dunnet , a friend to her father and a very complex man who’s carrying a whole lot of baggage from his childhood. The chemistry that the author creates between these two is palpable from their first encounter and you just can’t help but root for these two as you’re following their story. You’ll also be introduced to many secondary characters and they’ll be as complex and entertaining as our leads. You’ll meet Fergus, Fiona, Susana, Lachlan, and last but certainly not least, Dermid. Seriously, if you’re looking for some Highland love to fill your days between now and spring 2016 when #Outlander returns, you may as well pick this one up. It’s sweet, heart wrenchingly emotional and well written. You can’t go wrong with a man in a kilt! Melanie for b2b Complimentary copy provided by the publisher Hannah Dounreay has rejected every suitor to offer for her but she knows she will have to marry eventually. When she first sees Alexander Lochlannach, Laird and Baron of Dunnet she is drawn to him but when he rescues her sparks fly. But due to misunderstandings she believes he doesn't really desire her and thinks they are going to have a marriage of convenience. Alexander is a man who tries to do everything in his power to win his wife. He is very strong, loyal, caring, and kind (he even takes in orphans and rescues abused dogs.) There are a few misunderstandings and small drama between Hannah and Alexander but nothing crazy that leads to them hating/loving each other back and forth for years like you find in a romance sometimes. The book focused much more on them actually falling in love instead of drama. I also enjoyed the side stories that went on like the Clearances happening in Scotland. I fully intend to read the other 2 books in the series about Hannah's sisters Susana and Lana (especially Lana). sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Hannah Dounreay must marry but she refuses all the choices of men who have offered for her. While attending a clan gathering she sees a magnificent specimen of a man and wonders who he is. While walking to the library, she is accosted by the son of the local bully laird. Before she can be ruined, her magnificent Highlander comes to her rescue. She is so amazed she kisses him and he is silent – then he leaves.
When I first read this part of the story I knew there was something wrong with him he had a scar down his face what else was wrong – was he deaf, mute … why didn’t he speak. But he was able to speak to her father and offer for her and she travels to his castle where they are married. I won’t spoil it for anyone but will say that she eventually comes to understand him and he accepts her not only as a wife but as a partner in everything.
Some drama ensues with the Duke of Caithness and some other clan leaders who are plotting to get rid of him. This book also shows a little of the pain and suffering the Clearances of this time cause in the Scottish Highlands.
As the first book in the Untamed Highlander series, Sabrina York has done a good job of setting up the series and I can only look forward to Book 2 coming soon. This book is a quick read and provides a wonderful peek into life in Scotland and the lives of the Baron and Baroness of Dunnet. This is a great story well worth reading.
