( ) Maya's Blanket was a sentimental book about a grandma and her granddaughter. Maya's grandma stitched her a blanket with blue and green all over with purple butterflies. She held this blanket very close to her heart and slept with it every night, but as time went on it began to wear down. She then helped her grandma turn it into other things each time it got worn down- a skirt, a scarf, a book holder etc. At the end she loses her book holder and decides to make a book of her memories with the blanket and all the different things her Abuelita made it into. She the shares the book with her daughter when she gets older. The language was different from most books, because the book is a bilingual book and not only includes English, but also the Spanish translation on the opposite page. I think this is a great aspect of the book and adds so much to the book. Grandparents who may not speak English can then read to their grandchild and they will both understand and the child can learn/practice both languages. Maya's Blanket has a strong message; valuing something special to you so much you want to keep it forever. This is the story of a treasured blanket, that becomes a dress, then a skirt, then a scarf etc. It also has Spanish words for children to learn, and is actually a true story. I especially appreciate the author's note about repurposing objects so they can still be used and appreciated. Diaz vivid illustrations and dynamic figures make this an ideal book for story time. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

"When a little girl's cherished baby blanket becomes old and worn, it is made into a dress, and over the years it is made into even smaller and smaller items, eventually ending up as a bookmark and inspiring the creation of a book. Includes an author's note and a glossary"-- Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
