Laura Prentiss has made some poor choices in her younger years that have forced her to enter the Witness Protection Program as a witness with evidence of a federal crime. Her ex-boyfriend was convicted and sent to prison on charges of human trafficking and drug running based on her evidence. He vowed to get even, so she was left with no choice but to leave behind her family, job and friends to start over in a new city with a new name and new life. She has just learned that her father needs a bone marrow transplant or he will die. She is the only match for a donor, but can she get back home unnoticed? Her aunt’s security company sends a body guard for her. Soon after the attempts on her life begin. Her protector is Griffin Devaney a former Navy SEAL. He is carrying a load of guilt over his last mission as a SEAL that had devastating results. He has grown far from God, but once he meets Laura and sees her resilience and peace with God in her life, he begins to think more about God. Laura has only a week to proceed with her donation before she must return to Witness Protection, but she and Griffin are in several hair-raising attempts on their lives and fall for one another. However, to keep everyone safe from her ex-boyfriend’s attempts to kill her, Laura must return to Witness Protection only this time she will have to move again and start her life over with a new name again. All this is only possible if Griffin can keep her safe as time and again her life is in jeopardy.
These are my “go-to” books when I have a few free hours and I want a story that wraps up in that time frame. I like how these stories get readers involved from the first few pages with plenty of action, tension and excitement. There is always a faith them and a romance to add to the depth of the story and make it interesting for a varied audience. I thought the ending of this one was a bit predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I got involved with the characters and was rooting for them to find a way to be together, but wasn’t sure if that was going to work out.
