""Beauty and the Beast"" is a classic fairy tale that has been retold by many authors over the years. This particular version is written by Charles Lamb and features the familiar story of a beautiful young woman who falls in love with a cursed prince who has been transformed into a beast. Despite his frightening appearance, the Beast is kind and gentle, and Beauty soon learns to see beyond his exterior to the goodness within. As their relationship deepens, Beauty must navigate the challenges of living in a magical castle and the jealousy of her sisters, who are envious of her newfound wealth and status. Ultimately, Beauty's love for the Beast breaks the curse and transforms him back into a prince, proving that true beauty comes from within. Lamb's retelling of this beloved tale is both enchanting and timeless, capturing the magic and wonder of the original story while adding his own unique voice and perspective.Sudden As Winds That Madd'ning Sweep The Foaming Surface Of The Deep, Vast Treasures, Trusted To The Wave, Were Buried In The Billowy Grave! Interesting - I had no idea the original story was a poem (or is this a variant? Ah, some research shows this was a "versification of the story"). The oddest thing was how normal it was - how similar to all the modern variations on the story. Though the three brothers a) haven't shown up in any story I'm aware of, possibly because b) they barely show up here. They certainly have neither names nor personalities, not even as much as the greedy sisters. I'm delighted to have found this and read it, just for the history - I'm always hearing about how the Brothers Grimm and their ilk sweetened the stories to their concept of what was appropriate for children. Aside from the fates of the sisters - and there's a chance (unlikely, but a chance) of redemption even there - this one seems to have escaped mostly without change. ( )
