I LOVED THIS BOOK! Like almost everything. I loved Darcy, I loved Bridget, I loved her sisters and brother and Rupert and oh guys while I almost always adore Rodale's books I have never been so ecstatically over the moon with prsctically all facets since...oh I can't remember and it doesn't really matter. I've read these in a funny order but they're a fun read. Four American siblings come to claim a lordship and to launch themselves on London society. They don't really fit in, their lives didn't prepare them for the way things work in England (the author did fall into badly designed corset problem areas, well made corsets are support garments not punishment) Bridget is a larger girl and put on a reducing diet by the woman who is trying to launch them on society. Darcy is the perfect example of a proper english lord, only when they talk they both have feelings for each other, almost against their will.
Bridget writes a diary, that features in the story and which takes part in a pivotal moment in the story. Choices are complicated for both of them but the HEA felt real. ( )

This is a mashup of several different stories. I liked it, probably because I didn’t take it seriously. No angst, more fluffy cuteness. (3.5 stars) ( )

This is a delightful (tongue-in-cheek) homage to Pride and Prejudice. From Colin Fitzwilliam (Wright) Lord Darcy to the American heiress Bridget who is not "attractive enough to tempt" him. We see Darcy's friend who has a sister planning to marry Lord Darcy and an heir, Mr Collins, willing to propose to one of the daughters to keep the Dukedom in the family. The book is filled with P&P imaginings. If you've never read P&P you will enjoy this book. If you have read it you will REALLY enjoy it.
Maya Rodale has done a great job of imagining what would happen if an American horse breeder inherited a Dukedom. James Cavendish and his 3 sisters come to England to take their place in society but don't quite fit in. It's hard to be new to the ton when everyone is looking for you to fail and cause a scandal. Ms Rodale weaves a tale of mistakes and scandals all the while showing how hard the Cavendishes are trying to fit in (some more than others.
The very fact that Bridget - the girl who fell at her very first ton event manages to catch the eye of the very proper Lord Darcy is a testament to everyone deserving a Happily Ever After. ( )

Fun, fluffy read. Combines elements of Bridget Jones's Diary with Pride and Prejudice. Remains true to the originals (so no huge surprises, really). Rodale writes both Darcy and Bridget well, and there are moments of breathlessness, both from joy and sorrow, throughout the book. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series. ( )
