This book was a super easy read. With only 24 pages, the author covered a lot about Jackie. This book was a basic timeline of Jackie's life. It briefly talked about his college career, then when he went to the army for two years, and then he started sports after. He experienced racism, but he ended segregation in sports, where he played for the Dodgers. ( )

This biography about Jackie Robinson is very simple and easy for young grades to read. The book starts off at the begging with where Jackie Robinson was born, Georgia, and then goes straight into his school years and playing sports. Jackie Robinson played many sports, not just baseball. Jackie Robinson attended UCLA, and he was varsity level in 4 different sports, something that was not heard of at UCLA. He excelled in baseball, and joined an all black team, until he was drafted to the Dodgers. Jackie Robinson also joined the army, and he had a family with his wife and their 3 children. Jackie Robinson did not always play baseball, and after his sports career was over with, he worked to help change society's views on segregation. Jackie Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. This book is very simple, and a quick read, but it does include some more advanced vocabulary words that could further be discussed. This book would be great for introducing the history behind segregation to young students, and having them discuss what they thought the definition of certain words were. ( )

This book highlights the life of Jackie Robinson. My daughter who is in kindergarten was able to read this book to me with little assistance. From a child perspective she referenced what is racism, and why was he the only “brown man” on the team. This book allowed me to explain history to my daughter. She was able to compare and contrast the difference of then and now. Her words “thankfully it’s not like that anymore.” This is a good book to reflect on African American history for younger children. ( )

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He loved sports, playing football, baseball, basketball, and track, and was the first UCLA athlete to earn varsity letters in four sports. After two years in the army, Robinson played for the Kansas City Monarchs all-black baseball team. In 1945, he became the first black man in the Brooklyn Dodgers team. Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
I did not enjoy this book at all. There was no flow, the sentence structure was awkward and boring, and it's told like a series of facts rather than a story. I would not recommend this to anyone. ( )

Jackie Robinson was famous for baseball. He signed to play for Brooklyn Dodgers as the first African American on the team. While playing for the Dodgers, Robinson ended segregation in baseball. ( )
