Godspell is one of those musicals that translates well from Broadway to small community theaters and amateurs. Part of that is due to its eminently singable songs. This recording reflects those songs well. It is based on the play, not the movie, so some songs differ.

It is hard for me to pick favorites from this recording. Day by Day is one of those because it stands alone. Forced to choose, I would add By My Side and On the Willows simply because they are so quietly beautiful.

I wore out my LP early on and replaced it with a CD long before the days of Amazon. If CDs wore out, I'd have had to replace it again. If you like music from musicals, this is a good recording to add. If you are philosophically minded, the songs have interesting messages. ( )
