Accounting Demystified is a book in the series by McGraw Hill that discusses different aspects of Accounting in a manner different from Accounting for Dummies. It does this in several ways; first off the book starts with the Balance Sheet and its different aspects and items. It includes the Accounting Equation, listing assets according to liquidity and so on. It explains the reasoning behind doing this and provides little questions and quizzes in order to foster understanding. In that sense, this book is somewhat better in its own way. Since it has problems to solve and quizzes to do, it makes sense that I would like this one slightly better.

There are some problems with it, but I don’t think they are too big of a deal. For example, I don’t know if this author works for Dell Inc or is merely a huge fan. Perhaps it is because the author lives and works in Texas. Either way, a great many of the examples deal with Dell, just be aware of that.

So, both of the books on Accounting that I took out were good and both scored the same. I don’t really have much else to say on this book, except that it is older and I don’t think it has an updated edition. ( )

Decent overview of accounting...I read through most of it, skipping the financial analysis section at the end. I now understand the basics of the balance sheet, etc., and that there are different kinds of accounting. Apparently you have to start early to get into accounting, though. :-) ( )

Just reading online (Amazon) excerpt has escalated my learning in an introductory college accounting course (using Warren, et al.24th Ed -- a book certainly valuable for graduate level business students or CPAs). In fact, the whole DeMYSTiFieD series of books has increased my GPA and my enthusiasm for learning and academic pursuits at least 50%. I tell everyone I can about it, as well as Kahn Academy (youtubedotcom) as invaluable academic support sites. Without these adjuncts to my two tutors,I would be in brutal academic hell! Kudos! ( )

This is a very easy to understand book for non finance based managers and also entrepreneurs. The concepts are explained clearly and examples are excellent. ( )
