Written in the style of the forties it’s a bit of a camp “What if” story set in the Elseworlds. It’s retro- fun to read, but don’t expect a deep plot here. It’s an homage to the golden age of comics. ( ) One of the many DC/Marvel crossovers, John Byrne's Batman & Captain America pairs the Dark Knight with the Sentinel of Liberty in 1945, near the end of World War II. While the pairing would seem odd in a modern setting, Byrne's decision to use the Golden Age, war-era versions of these characters makes the story more reminiscent of a World's Finest story than a post-war Cap and gritty Batman would allow. The story, set in Gotham City, focuses on the two as they, together with Robin and Bucky, work to thwart the plans of the Joker and the Red Skull, who mean to steal an atom bomb. Byrne ably channels the best artists of the Golden Age, at one point directly referencing Dick Sprang's portrayal of the Batcave. Additionally, Byrne makes ample use of splash pages to show off the epic visuals of Batman and Captain America fighting side-by-side. As an Elseworlds tale, this story exists outside of continuity, but that makes it all the more fun as Byrne has a great deal of narrative freedom, resulting in his epilogue, which briefly explores some of the ramifications of this team-up. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
