Cressida Porter, grad student, finds herself in the middle of a CIA operation in Turkey where she is trying to find a tunnel once explored by T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). The man who promised to be Cressida's interpreter and guide has placed a microchip on her that is supposed to lead Ian Boyd to the leader of a major terrorist cell. Ian's mission is to follow Cressida, but when Ian and Cressida meet, they begin a rollicking adventure through Middle Eastern deserts dodging religious extremists and CIA traitors along the way.
This is a good entry in the Evidence series. There is lots of action and adventure as well as romance in this book. Cressida and Ian's early mistrust of each other not only develops great chemistry, but also shows each character's deep determination to do the right thing. Overall a very good read. ( )

This series has taken readers to all sorts of places with the most fascinating stories full of suspense and romance. This go round we’re in Turkey and its not long before we are shot out of the gate on another thrilling ride that involves a terrorist organization and good and bad CIA agents.

I have to say I think the CIA is the shadiest bunch of people – at least how they are portrayed in books and movies. Its rare they are shown in a good light. I often wonder why that is. Anyhow, when the main hero of the book is a CIA operative and their lives are all about lying and completing the mission at any cost the author sure has to work at making the reader like him. That was certainly the case with Ian Boyd who is a case officer with the CIA who has been undercover in the Middle East for many years. Ian cares about nothing but his missions. He is currently on one to find out the identity of a terrorist leader when everything goes FUBAR and he ends up on the run with a woman he doesn’t quite trust and treats like a mark even though he’s attracted to her.

Cressida Porter who we’ve met in previous books is an underwater archaeologist currently on a research trip in Turkey. Finished with her part she had plans to continue on by herself to gather information for her dissertation. Unknowingly the local she hired to her with translation got her mixed up in the middle of a terrorist cell that has so many traitors both foreign and domestic my head was spinning and I wasn’t the poor person trapped in a foreign country who can’t speak the language and on the run with a man she doesn’t know she can trust and if he has her best interests at heart even though he’s the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on.

The author writes about Turkey in such vivid detail its like a fascinating history lesson. Once I start one of Rachel’s books I cant seem to put it down until I’m finished. Another great addition to the series!!

Covert Evidence (Evidence #5) by Rachel Grant (Goodreads Author), is an action packed, romantic suspense story with lots of twists and turns that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

For Cressida what started out as a research trip to Turkey to gather info for her dissertation, turns into a nightmare. Colliding with the “target” of his mission, CIA operative, Ian Boyd, finds himself in deep trouble, his mission isn’t progressing as it should have, and his heart gets tangled in the mess as well.

The story centers around Cressida and Ian, with cameo appearances from many of the characters reader’s have met in earlier books in the Evidence series. Although the book can be read as a standalone, knowing how the supporting characters play in the plot, helps tie the “family and friends” concept to the story. In additional to the cameo appearances, there are many new supporting characters introduced, that help bring the geographical feel to the story. There is also a bit of a socio-political feel to the story, but it’s not the “ripped from the headlines” type.

The character development for Ian and Cressida is just enough for the reader to form an opinion of them, with both characters being strong willed, stubborn, and knowledgeable in their fields. The story has many twists and turns, from roles characters play to how the romance plays out.

I received a copy of the book from NetGalley on behalf of All Night Reads. As with the other books in the series I found this to be a very enjoyable read, and a good addition to the series. One of the things I enjoy about this series is the author’s actual knowledge of archaeology, and how she seamlessly weaves it in the story lines. For me it was a 4 star read. The expected publication date is May 26, 2015
