A decade ago, kidnappers grabbed two boys from wealthy families and demanded ransom, then went silent. No trace of the boys ever surfaced. For ten years their families have been left with nothing but painful memories and a quiet desperation for the day that has finally, miraculously arrived: Myron Bolitar and his friend Win believe they have located one of the boys, now a teenager. Where has he been for ten years, and what does he know about the day, more than half a life ago, when he was taken? And most critically: what can he tell Myron and Win about the fate of his missing friend? Drawing on his singular talent, Harlan Coben delivers an explosive and deeply moving thriller about friendship, family, and the meaning of home.… (mais)

A quality addition to the Myron Bolitar series, with Coben's signature corkscrew twists at the end. Two six year old boys are kidnapped from a wealthy suburban home in Alpine, NJ, and after ten years, Win Lockwood (a relative of one of them) receives an anonymous email, where he finds one of the boys; however, he slips away forcing Win to bring over his BFF, Myron Bolitar to help in the rescue of both boys. Sadly, only one is rescued and almost dies in the process. Questions then arise as to whether he is the actual victim or an imposter, forcing Myron to re-open the cold case and still festering wounds. Joined by nephew Mickey, and his former teammates Esperanza and Big Cyndi, this was very well done, topped off with a surprise ending. Warm reunions for Myron, Win, Esperanza, and their loved ones. I generally have read quite a few Harlan Coben. Some of the stand alone's were superb but as a series I just love Myron and Win. This is a Win and Myron.
I don't particularly read books in the order they were written. So when i was reading the Mickey Bolitar series i would often wonder where Win was. Why wasn't he in? I guess i missed a few before the start of that series.
This book starts off with Win. Hard core , no apologies Win. I was hooked. Then the Myron,Win repartee, i just kept enjoying the book. About a quarter into the book. Mickey and his young sleuths gang was also in. At that point i was actually like WOW. A proper Win and Myron series with Mickey and gang as well.
It was thoroughly enjoyable. Of course i think the Myron and Win series should not be read back to back as then maybe it becomes repetitive. In this case for me it was quite a long break. At least 4 yrs or more. So that might be one of the reasons I loved it so much.
Harlan Coben books almost never end well. No happy endings so that isn't really a spoiler.
However the epilogue again had a very nice , completely unexpected juicy reveal. Makes me wonder where he is going with this in the next books. Interesting possibilities. ( )

Impeccably written. Razor sharp, engaging, stunningly clever. Harlan is truly in a class of his own.

This was my first Myron book, but it reads like a stand alone. Am definitely ready to read more of the series. ( )

This 11th installment in the Myron Bolitar series (or 14th, if you insert into the timeline the trilogy with his nephew, Mickey – and I think you should) have the pair trying to solve a mystery that’s personal to Win. Ten years ago two six-year-old boys on a play date were kidnapped from a wealthy home. A ransom was demanded and paid, but never picked up. Neither boy was returned. One of those boys is the son of Win’s favorite cousin.

But now, Win has sighted one of the boys in London, and after a wild and explosive negotiation, Myron and Win rescue one boy, but we still know nothing about the second boy, and questions and suspicions continue to mount. Count on the unexpected, as well as a, mostly, satisfying ending that ties up several story arcs. As always, Myron and Win are full of side-splitting, smart-aleck banter.

Coben’s stories don’t rely on a formula other than you can count on the first part of a book to introduce you to characters and histories, then suddenly take off with the mystery, dead ends, more questions, and twists – forget trying to read ahead to the ending to see whodunit. His theme always revolves around family – how the events in the story impact the family unit.

Esperanza, Big Cyndi, and Myron’s nephew, Mickey, are back, as well as Mickey’s friends Spoon and Ema. Read this series in order beginning with 'Deal Breaker. As always, Steven Weber does a great job with the voices for this series.
