Elvis is my favorite; he bristles at EVERYTHING and always looks grouchy (but really only cares that his toesies stay toasty). ( ) Breaking Cat News is full of the earliest comic strips, so our intrepid reporters, Elvis the Siamese, Puck the black cat, and Lupin the white cat don't look quite as they do in 2021. One may see Ms. Dunn's style evolving through the pages. These three cats live in an apartment with their humans, a couple whom they refer to and address as "man" and "woman". When the woman's sister is cat-sitting, they call her "the intruder". The couple's son is born later in the book. It's fun to read the cats' different reactions to the baby. Everything is from the viewpoint of the cats, although the humans' dialog clues readers into what's going on from our viewpoint. My favorite page is 84, where Puck asks the man about his shower. The friend who introduced me to the strip and sent me the books thinks the strip on pp. 102-103 describes how this summer is going. One can tell that the couple don't mind taking in disabled cats. Puck is missing his right hind leg and Lupin is deaf (Lupin reads whiskers, etc.). None of the other cats in the strip appear in this book except for Tommy, who, at this point, is a nameless cat talking to them through their windows. Tommy is the one to introduce readers to the neighborhood skunk, Louis, who sprayed Elvis. (Elvis is most disgusted by the indignities his humans put him through afterward.) There is a floor plan of the apartment on p.96. (The spare room will become the baby's room before the book is over.) Do enjoy the cats' reactions to and assumptions about the furnishings. Don't let the tiny clothes, tiny microphones, and in Lupin's case, the tiny hat fool you. If you've ever lived with cats, you'll know these are cats. Luckily for my family, our three cats have never attempted to take over our 'precious counter space' at once. The man may have captured Puck and Lupin, but as Elvis smugly points out, the man has only two arms. I hope I've given enough of an idea of the contents to help fans figure out if a favorite storyline is included. This is a book for cat lovers, cat haters (who will doubtless consider their worst suspicions confirmed), and the cat curious. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
