Disappointing ( ) Bueno, uno a veces no piensa que lo que conoce de los clásicos es en realidad no algo que nos llegó por casualidad sino que hubo todo un proceso de selección e interpretación, desde el barbaro que se llevó una estatua a la casa y destruyó las otras ( tal vez mas importantes) y eso es lo que nos llega o como el copista que decide copiar tal texto y no otro del autor, por gusto, por política o por pereza, Y que además de eso primera selección, conocemos los clásicos con la dectanción de loque opinaron de ellos durante toda la historia, desde los contemporaneos hasta los críticos de hace 30 añós, a manera de ejemplo todo el siclo de edipo, sería leido igual sin Freud? Quite an unusual approach to the topic, with deep reflection on what it means for us to read the classics from such a distant point in time and culture. I found it very hard to follow what they were trying to accomplish in the final chapter ‘Et in Arcadia Ego’ - I think it's something about understanding the classics as a kind of mythological grand tour landscape, but it's not clear. If you want to see another angle on the grand tour landscape, I recommend the television Time Team Special episode 28 "Secrets of the Stately Garden".
