Torn is another solid entry in the LOST series. Victoria Palmer's job at LOST is as a forensic anthropologist, dealing with the dead. Victoria considers them safer than the living because the living might break the carefully constructed shield that she has built around herself. A past that includes the murder of her mother by her father makes her believe that she could be genetically disposed to be a killer herself causing her to keep everyone at arm's length. Wade, who is one of the founding members of LOST, along with his best friend Gabe, has always honored Victoria's attempts to keep him at a careful distance, but the close calls Victoria had on their last couple of cases has made him change his position. Now he has decided that it is time to break through the wall Victoria has built to keep him out and act upon the dynamic attraction that he knows they both feel for each other. When Victoria is once again put at risk by a serial killer, Wade decides they are never going to be apart again. This story follows the basic serial killer/heroine formula but includes enough additional material to make it an enjoyable read. ( )

Torn is book 4 in the LOST series by Cynthia Eden and brings us back to the Last Option Search Team and the cases that keep them busy. Victoria experienced a trauma in the form of an attack in a previous book. She is still struggling with the PTSD from that event coupled with her natural affinity to avoid the living, preferring instead to stick with the dead. As a forensic anthropologist, Victoria is called upon to examine bodies found in relation to cases. However, Gabe, her boss, is sending her and Wade to look into a case where there is NO body. Viki isn't sure what she can do to help, and is desperate to keep her secret (that she isn't doing so well since the attack and her darker childhood secret). Wade sees right through her act and is determined to get to the heart of Viki and help her heal. Then, he can make her his.

I enjoyed the dynamic between Victoria and Wade. He is determined and she is skittish. They both have secrets though. Viki thinks her secret will force Wade to turn her in. She really underestimates him! All this develops while they are looking for a missing girl, and then another girl goes missing. Then the killer targets Viki and it becomes a game of cat and mouse. While some parts of the plot I figured out rather quickly, there was still a twist that I didn't see coming. That rarely happens to me so when it does I am thrilled!

Torn is not my favorite of the LOST series but it is still everything I love about Cynthia Eden's books. The sexual chemistry, the danger, the intrigue...its all well crafted and compelling! If you are a fan of romantic suspense, Cynthia Eden needs to be on your go-to author list.

  • POV: 3rd

  • Tears: no

  • Trope: coworkers/partners

  • Triggers: none

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone in an interconnected series (in this case, something happened to Viki in the previous book, so it really is helpful to have read at least that one!

  • Cliffhanger: no

  • HEA: yes

Books by Katie Reus, LP Dover, Katee Robert, Janie Crouch...then you will probably like Torn!

One of my favorite series of hers so far has been her Lost series. I think it's because of the whole idea of the series. I like the fact that they work so hard to find those who others have given up on. Not only is this a great series, Eden has a way of writing hero's that make you want to be lost (I'm thinking you're sitting at Starbucks waiting to be found) and them to find you.

Hot, tough sexy hero's!

I love them all of course Jax from Shattered is still my favorite. Shh...don't tell Wade.

Not to worry, you'll love Wade too. He's a great guy who stands for those in need. He also doesn't realize what a great guy he is. Makes him even more warm and fuzzy. He's the type of guy that makes you jealous of the heroine.

Of course in Torn the hero is pretty special herself. She has spent so much of her life giving to others to prove she's better then her father. Right away you know she's way better.

At times you wonder if these two will be able to finally get together and have their happily-ever-after...

...only to learn that some strings are meant to be tied.

Torn is book #4 in the Lost Series and that might give you pause. I wouldn't want to read this series out of order. Even though in Torn you only have mention of most of the other agents. I find that it just makes for a better story to really understand all the Lost agents.
