I need some fluff right now...

What a story! The idea of trusting your heart, not what others make you see, is an interesting one, and when someone loses that ability, catastrophe follows. Or at least it does in this tale of two werewolves, future alphas of their packs, intended to be bonded from birth, until fate intervenes and they are separated for years of suffering. It takes the intervention of one courageous little sister to get help and start to fix the mess, but the emotional scars on both sides will remain.

Abe is the older of two boys, then men, whose parents agreed to have them bonded so their packs could merge under their joint leadership and become stronger. Abe cannot remember a day he didn't love Kai, first like a little brother and then as his future mate when they get older. But when he finally goes to claim him on Kai's eighteenth birthday, Kai breaks his heart and he turns away, dejected and feeling betrayed. He is never able to forget Kai though, cannot find love anywhere else, so when he becomes an alpha when he is thirty, and Kai's younger sister comes to him for help, he has to reconsider everything he thought he knew about the night Kai betrayed him. He has to learn to trust his heart.

Kai is desperate enough to want to end his life after years of suffering and believing that Abe has rejected him and no longer wants to be his mate. And when Abe surprises him by helping, he dares to hope that not all may be lost. After all, he never stopped loving the man who was intended to become his partner and mate.

This is a highly emotional and heartwrenching love story, and it made me cry for both men who had totally lost their way. Abe because he thought the man he loved had betrayed him, and Kai because he was abused in the most horrible way and had lost all hope of ever being accepted by the man he loves.

If you like stories about lovers intended to be together but not before they each go through hell, if you enjoy emotional separations followed by hesitant, then triumphant reunions, and if you're looking for a read that is as intense as it is hot, then you will probably like this novella. I know I won't forget it anytime soon!
