Peep is super excited to go out trick-or-treating, but Egg (who is no longer an egg but a chick just like Peep) is too scared. Peep tries to convince Egg that they will have lots of fun by visiting the ducks and the cows, but Egg is too scared. Then Peep tells Egg some Halloween jokes and Egg starts to giggle. Peep decides to go to the barn without Egg to see everyone's costumes and Egg thinks maybe having fun on Halloween isn't so scary.

Children will enjoy seeing all the barn animals in various costumes. They will laugh at all the silly jokes that Peep told to try to get Egg to go trick-or-treating. If you have a young child who may be afraid to go out on Halloween night, this may be a good book to share with them. ( )

This cute little tale of friend Peep and Egg, two chicks, explores overcoming fears and friendship. In the beginning, Egg does not want to go trick-or-treating because Halloween is scary. Peep and Egg go to two stops, the vampire ducks and the mummy cows, and Egg gives up because he is too scared. Back at their home Peep tells Egg a Halloween joke to show how Halloween is not that scary, the first joke scares Egg. But after each joke, Egg begins to laugh a little and have fun. Peep is being a good friend by trying to cheer Egg up and help him get over his fear of Halloween. Eventually, Egg gets angry and Peep leaves to trick-or-treat by herself. When left alone Egg gets scared and goes chasing after Peep. He finds Peep and they end up going trick-or-treating together, and at the end of the night they sit in a pumpkin patch and Egg says that he's glad that he went. Trying something new and overcoming fears was important for Egg to finally have fun. ( )
