* A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! A big thank you to K.L. Slater as well for having an amazing story to share with her readers this was absolutely a must read for those who love thrillers! *
While on her way to work one day as a mail carrier, Anna witnesses a road traffic accident in which a car collides with a motorcyclist right in front of her. When Anna gets out of the car to help the injured man, she is shocked to see the driver is Carla, who she has been looking for over the last 13 years. Is this divine intervention or just a bad day colliding with a bad childhood for Anna?
The story progresses at a very quick pace and revolves around Anna’s need to right the wrong of thirteen years ago and avenge the death of her brother Danny. Anna finds out that Carla’s name is now Amanda and does everything she can to construct a smear campaign where Amanda is seen as this dreadful person.
As the story advances, there are plenty of flashbacks to thirteen years ago, and we eventually find out more of Anna's and Danny's story and their horrible mother. We also hear from Amanda's point of view, and that of Mrs Peat, Anna's neighbor, who has secrets of her own.
The characters are very well written and there is enough backstory from Anna’s past to tie things together very nicely. Overall this gets 4 Safe stars from me if you have a day to spend reading this would be an awesome book to get lost in.

An amazing read. Slater brings in multiple characters with varied pasts. Additionally she has a current thread and a past thread, both are filled with unexpected turns. How she holds it together, I don't know, but she does an amazing job and you find you just have to keep reading to solve all the mysteries. The narration is also amazing.

Thirteen years ago someone did something very bad to Anna. Now it's her turn to get even.

Anna lives a solitary existence, taking solace in order and routine. Her only friend is the lonely old lady next door. She doesn't like to let people to get too close - she knows how much damage they can do.

Then one ordinary day, Anna witnesses a devastating road accident and recognizes the driver as Carla, the woman who ruined her life all those years ago. Now it's Anna's chance to set things straight, but her revenge needs to be executed carefully....

First she needs to get to know Liam, the man injured in the accident. She needs to follow the police investigation. She needs to watch Carla from the shadows.... But as Anna's obsession with Carla escalates, her own secrets start to unravel. Is Carla really dangerous, or does Anna need to worry about someone far closer to home? ( )

What happened thirteen years ago, and did it drive Anna completely crazy? She is a mail carrier in Nottingham with some strange proclivities. For example, her mail delivery practices were abhorable. And, she mails herself birthday cards and flowers. Anna has spent years wishing revenge upon Carla, a woman she feels was responsible for a terrible turn of events. Those experiences may have precipitated Anna’s descent into madness. When Anna eyewitnesses a terrible car accident where Carla was the driver, she sets a plan of action in motion.

Anna ingrains herself into the life of Liam Bradbury, the victim of the accident. She hopes that there will be a police investigation into the accident, thinking this might be a way to watch Carla’s actions. She lost track of Carla once before. Now this perfect opportunity presents itself and she’s not about to give up this chance for revenge.

I don’t know when I have spent so much time in the mind of a depraved individual. However, the more the story progressed, it became clear that Anna isn’t the only one so imbalanced. She’s gone mad. No doubt about that. Who else in this tale could possibly be as demented as Anna?

As icky as I felt, I admit to being enthralled, giving up hours of my time to read this straight through. At the outset, Anna seems to be leading a fairly normal life. However, the deeper the story got, it was evident that she was as far from normal as could be. We also get Carla’s point of view and it was rather curious to wait and see when their paths would cross yet again.

There is a lot of misdirection in this story by K.L. Slater. This is my second read by this author, and I found it interesting that this is her debut novel. This definitely was an entertaining book.

Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )

Anna has a comfortable yet quiet life. She has no family or friends. She lives with her cat, Albert in a house that has been paid off since the death of her family and spends her days delivering mail.
One day, she witnesses an accident and becomes saviour to the man, Liam, on the motorbike, inserting herself in his life, but the sight of the driver sends Anna back to a place she doesn’t want to remember and she becomes a bit unhinged.
Soon, she thrusts herself into Liam’s life. She was there to see the accident; she held his hand while waiting for the ambulance and visited him relentlessly in the hospital. She believes the accident was meant to happen; that she and Liam should be together. But why does his grandmother Ivy, try to block all her helpful gestures? Ivy isn’t well herself and Liam needs someone to take care of him. Her life becomes a little chaotic as she spends time caring for Liam, while the struggle keeping up with her job consumes her. And then, there’s the other driver, Amanda, who is despised by Anna and has secrets of her own.
This book was one I wanted to fly through to get to the end and have all the answers. Many scenarios played out in my head as I tried to put all the pieces together.
Anna, was such a sad and pathetic character but I couldn’t help but be endeared to her. She has had a sad life and really had nothing much going for her but I don’t know that she actually realized it as that was really all she knew. She wanted someone so badly and could see nothing wrong in her actions of smothering Liam and making decisions on his behalf. She did almost everything wrong including the handling of her job but as a reader, I couldn’t dislike her and wanting to protect her. We are all somewhat a product of our past and our upbringing and Anna’s fate was decided long ago. I found myself actually cringing at things she was doing, knowing it was not going to have good results and actually at times, I verbally spoke with dismay, I was that much invested in this book.
This is the fifth book I have read of K. L. Slater. The first one I read of hers was “Blink” courtesy of Net Galley, and with that, I was hooked on Slater’s books. Not as well known yet as she should be, her books are engrossing and suspenseful and the ones I haven’t yet read have been downloaded on my ereader.
Thank you to net galley and the publisher for the privilege of reading this book by sending me a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

I'm really not sure about this one. For two thirds of the book I was gripped by the tension, torn between sympathy and contempt for the main character, but in the end it just kind of fizzled out and I was left thinking "Really? ... That's it?" Not a pick and I probably won't pick it up for another read in the future. ( )
