Yes, one must suspend disbelief when reading one of these so I went along with Tarzan taking on the German army and taming a lion and climbing a series of sheer cliffs with no food or water, but when he got to the land of the "maniacs," I was like, Wut?!?! The book merged with a scifi nightmare or another version of the Land that Time Forgot or some such and really went off the rails. And it seemed to me that the casual racism was less casual in this one. Didn't particularly care for this one. ( ) "Tarzan the Untamed" is an adventure novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and published in 1919. It is part of the Tarzan series and follows the legendary jungle hero, Tarzan of the Apes, on a thrilling and action-packed journey through war-torn Africa during World War I. In this installment, Tarzan finds himself in the midst of the conflict as German forces invade the African continent. The war disrupts the peace of the jungle, and Tarzan's beloved wife, Jane, is taken captive by German soldiers. Fueled by his love for Jane and his thirst for revenge, Tarzan sets out to rescue her and exact vengeance upon those who have threatened his family. As Tarzan embarks on his quest, he encounters a wide array of dangers and adversaries, including not only German soldiers but also hostile tribes, dangerous wildlife, and treacherous environments. Tarzan's extraordinary strength, agility, and resourcefulness are put to the test as he navigates through the harsh landscapes and engages in battles to protect his loved ones. Throughout the narrative, Burroughs weaves together themes of love, honor, and the clash between civilization and the wild. Tarzan must confront his own savage nature and balance it with his desire for justice and his devotion to Jane. The novel explores the depths of Tarzan's character and his unwavering determination to rescue those he holds dear. "Tarzan the Untamed" also offers a vivid portrayal of war's impact on the African landscape and its inhabitants. Burroughs highlights the devastation wrought by conflict and the ways in which the war disrupts the harmony of the natural world. With its thrilling action sequences, dramatic conflicts, and emotional depth, "Tarzan the Untamed" showcases Burroughs' storytelling prowess and captures the timeless appeal of Tarzan as a heroic figure. The novel takes readers on an exhilarating journey through untamed lands, providing a thrilling blend of adventure, romance, and the enduring spirit of the wild. There's a good pulpy adventure story here (hence the three stars), but it's buried beneath extreme amounts of racism and sexism that are difficult to wade through. This is a problem for the entire Tarzan series, but seems to especially meet a head here. I think I'll be taking a long break before picking up the next volume. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
