A young boy trying to cope with life with OCD is the last person to see toddler Teddy before he disappeared. With the help of his friend Melody, he tries to figure out what happened to Teddy before it's too late. a fantastic thriller for young readers with lots of humour and twists. ( )

This book received a Sasquatch Children's Choice Award in Washington State. The main character, Matt, is afflicted with Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder (OCD) which causes Matt to clean his hands and surroundings constantly. Matt longs to play with other children, but is unsure because of his OCD issues. In the story, an emergency involving a neighbor child engages Matt to take on new responsibilities and grow skills to endure and cope with his condition. The setting in England and the excellent Lisa Thompson dialogue and story lines connect the reader to Matt. A great book for connecting children to personal growth issues in themselves or others. ( )

A middle grade mystery where the main character suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Despite his self imposed isolation, Matthew Corbin finds himself in the middle of a missing person's case. Being the alst person to see a toddler alive, Matty feels that it is his responsibility to find the missing boy. But how can he solve a mystery without leaving his house? False leads, curious characters, and a great need for acceptance kept me hooked. One of this year's Sasquatch Book Award nominees I am excited to share this with my middle readers!

Excellent book written for younger readers about an 11 yr old boy who blames himself for the death of his newborn baby brother and develops OCD and agoraphobia as a result. Matthew stays in his bedroom all day watching his neighbours and recording their movements to make sense of the world. He obsessively cleans the house and refuses to let his mother cross the threshold of his bedroom due to germs that she may be carrying.
While visiting his local psychiatrist, Matthew runs into Melody - a girl his age who lives in the street and who won't take no for an answer to be his friend. She starts emailing him and then when a baby toddler goes missing, the two combine to try and solve the mystery with Matthew the eyes and Melody the legs on the ground. I liked this because it took me a while to guess who the culprit was as the author kept throwing nice red herrings in the way.
The OCD is handled very sensitively and from a child's perspective and the "bullying" by another neighbourhood kid Jake of Melody and not Matthew is very realistic. I also liked that it touched on how careless words and a death could have such an impact on a child's mind. ( )
