Wilder is staying with his Grandfather for part of his summer. He receives a gift from his grandfather, a horse. A Tequito, a Mexican vaquero, agrees to help him learn how to tame his horse. As he struggles with his own ideas and then is guided by Tequito, Wilder learns the history of the Mexican traditions as well as the gentleness it takes meet and “train” the horse.
If you’ve read the other three Wilder Good books, you’ll want to read this one as well. The story does briefly shift and tell about Tequito’s life, which will show that people should be given chances to show they have changed and grown in life knowledge. Wilder and his grandfather also experience a grievous experience that also teaches how unintentional mistakes can be devastating. (
