Feather, an endangered crane, has lost his ability to fly. Lotus and her grandfather work to save the injured crane. As he becomes healthier, feather ends up a hero as he helps save the village from a flood. Eventually, Feather flies away and starts a family of his own. This book teaches children about wildlife conservation and the bond between people and animals. This story was heartwarming, and I enjoyed it. This book is based on a true story about a crane who is injured. Lotus and her grandfather nursed the crane back to health. She names the crane feather, and their bond became stronger. Eventually, when Feather felt good to walk, he followed Lotus everywhere. One day, the village flooded from an earthquake, however, Feather woke up Lotus and her grandfather to warn others around the village on their boat. Feather did become a hero for what he has done. Sadly, Lotus knew Feather had to be with his family soon. Feather became strong to fly, and he left. The next day, Lotus was excited when Feather came with his family. I would read this book to the children because it's beautiful. I believe the theme is friendship and love. After the winter illness, Lotus didn't have a voice and so she didn't have friends either. One morning when Lotus was collecting reeds for her grandpa, she noticed an endangered crane nearby, but she also noticed a hunter. The hunter shot the crane and Lotus grabbed the crane and brought it home to grandpa who wrapped up the bird's wound. As Lotus nursed the crane, who she named Feather, back to health, their bond grew. When Feather felt good enough to walk, he followed Lotus everywhere. He even followed Lotus to school and waited for Lotus outside until school was over! Feather danced to Lotus's reed whistle and the children at Lotus's school loved to watch and dance along with Feather. One night when the village flooded from an earthquake, Feather woke Lotus and her grandfather who then take their boat around the village to awake the villagers as well. Feather was a hero and even got put in the newspaper! As the birds began appearing in the sky migrating North, Lotus knew that Feather would have to leave soon to go back to his family. When Feather became strong enough to fly, it was time for him to leave. One morning, Lotus heard a crow outside and went she went to look, it was Feather and his family! Lotus heard another commotion, looked to the sky, grabbed grandpa, and ran to the lake to that Feather brought his entire flock! The lake was filled with life once again. This story was so sweet and heartwarming. This story is definitely one of my favorites. It has a great storyline with that iconic subliminal message, "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, its yours forever." My favorite part was when it came time for Feather to go and he kept circling back to Lotus because he was waiting for her to come along. I definitely shed a tear at that part. I also loved that in the beginning, Lotus had no friends, but after she met Feather and her schoolmates met Feather, they befriended Lotus. I will definitely be adding this book to my library when I become a teacher. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

- This is the story of Lotus, a girl who lost her voice and feels lonely in her town. She lives by the lake with her grandpa, who tells her about how bountiful with wildlife the lake used to be before hunters came. One day, Lotus notices a crane in the water and stares in wonder. All of a sudden, a loud shot soured through the air and hit the crane's wing. After the hunter left, Lotus carried the crane home to her grandpa. She named the crane Feather and helped her grandpa take care of him for months. She played her flute as Feather danced around her. Every night, she cuddled with Feather and held him tightly. After many months, Feather began to fully recover. Her grandpa told her it would soon be time for Feather to migrate South for the winter. When the time came, she let Feather be free, even though it pained her so. When autumn came, Feather returned with his family and a huge flock of cranes landed in their lake! Lotus and Feather were reunited at last.
- This was a heart-warming tale of love and acceptance. I enjoyed reading about the bond that Lotus formed with Feather and the appreciation she had for protecting wildlife. It was amazing to read about a child who realized that if she loved something, she had to set it free. She never wanted to keep Feather from his family. This story embodies acceptance, love, and friendship.
