Dipped my toe into the "DC: Rebirth" with a title awash in alternate timeline. (Gosh I miss the multi-verse.) It should have been called "Wally West, vol 1: The Return of the Titans." I wanted more time with the other Titans, especially Donna and Dick. Might read the next volume. ( )

Yessss. The Titans are back! I love this team, even though the roster isn't quite the one I know and love, it's good to see them back together. I admit I had stopped reading DC around Flashpoint, but I was still able to follow along. Though looks like I have done catching up to do. ( )

I liked this one. I've been a fan of the original Teen Titans for a long time, and still have several early issues from the late 60s. The strength of this series has always been the friendship between the team members, and that's used quite successfully in this first volume in DC's Rebirth event.

The writing was pretty good, though somewhat corny in places, and the artwork was very good. I definitely liked seeing the "new" team in their new uniforms facing the "old" team in their original costumes. I also liked the scene with Wally and Linda in "heaven", which reminded me a lot of a similar scene in the Star Trek movie, "Generations".

I'm interested to see where this series heads. Lots of clues in this volume about the future. ( )

While this was heavily slanted as a Wally West tale and the Titans here are not exactly the ones I grew up on, the friendships felt right on. And that at the core is what the Titans always were about for me. ( )

After finishing this I felt like it was an example of some of the best DC has to offer when it comes to characters and writing talent. Dan Abnett developed the characters quite well in this story arch and it was fun seeing our classic team back in action except for the fact it did feel a bit like this was more of Wally West story than one about the Titans as a team. But I’m a West fan so I was fine with the extra attention. I did like the friendship depictions that were developed and of course reading this so close to Valentine’s Day it was nice to get some romance in. What can I say? I like cliché romance stories this time of year where you see the good guy fight for love in his life.

Regarding the art. I’ve seen some complaints about Brett Booth’s designs but I don’t get it. I found his work to be intricate, detailed and adeptly able at bringing Abnett’s words to life. The characters look like what you’d expect and the color palette is vibrant breathing life onto the pages. I thought there was just a slight sophisticated touch to it that brought some maturity to a teen story.

Overall this was well worth my time as the stories were easy to read, full of enough action scenes to keep your attention and it made me glad to see Wally West back at the helm! ( )
