"Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself... Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelyn's Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn's life unfolds, revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love, Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn's story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique's own in tragic and irreversible ways."--… (mais)

This is my second TJR book and it did not disappoint! I was hooked from the beginning since multiple mysteries we're introduced early on. I really enjoyed the writing style, switching back and forth from an interview to biography excerpts and back again. That may sound intimidating, but it was consistently easy to follow. The second half of the book presented reveal after reveal, which caused my jaw hit the floor in disbelief and awe. This is definitely one of my new favorite books and I look forward to reading more books from this author! I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone, especially readers looking for a fast-paced, mysterious, fascinating book to get them out of their reading slump. ( )

I was impressed with this book. I've read a book by this author before, so I jumped on it because I enjoy the style of writing plus the fact it was about a (fictional) Hollywood legend. I wasn't expecting to be as taken in by Evelyn Hugo as I was. She felt like a living, breathing person. That felt special. I even found myself gasping out loud at least once.

I would absolutely recommend this book. ( )

This is the first romance novel that can captures the kind of love that, when I was growing up, told wasn't normal. ( )

A friend strongly recommended this book, and it was fine. It just wasn't really my sort of book. Evelyn Hugo is a movie star in the late 1950s and beyond. She is constantly scheming to increase her fame and power. She ends up having seven husbands which is ironic since the only person she truly loves is a woman. ( )

Monique, a relatively unknown magazine reporter/writer who is going through some relationship woes of her own, is caught off guard when famous movie star Evelyn Hugo, now age 79, decides she would like a biography written about her life and chooses Monique to do the honors. Evelyn, known for her beauty, her starring roles in Hollywood blockbusters, and her numerous husbands, has some secrets and is ready to tell all. But why has she chosen Monique?

I realize I'm a little late to the party with this one, but after enjoying Daisy Jones a few months ago, I decided I was ready for another go with Taylor Jenkins Reid. And again, I was not disappointed. Written in a style that's easy to devour and become engrossed in, that's exactly what I did. Typically I can give or take novels written about Hollywood life, but with flashbacks from the 50's up through the 90's, I was all in for this one. And though there were glimpses into the Hollywood life, there was also a lot of other meat to this story. I look forward to reading even more of this author's works. ( )
