You know the type: the woman who won??t shut up, who??s too brazen, too opinionated??too much. She??s the unruly woman, and she embodies one of the most provocative and powerful forms of womanhood today. this was ehh... there were things i liked about this book, but also a lot of things i didn't like. i think the arguments in each chapter should've been discussed more/Petersen could've gone a little deeper into the arguments/the analysis in the book was poor. i think this book is an important topic, but she didn't do a good job highlighting the women in the book. i also had a problem with the length of the chapters and how it felt like she was praising some of the women more than others and also talking more about some than others. not every chapter/woman talked about felt equal. at some points it honestly felt like she was hating on the women she was talking about. i also didn't like how there wasn't enough diversity in this book. not enough women of color or LGBTQ women was talked about. the writing style was easy to read! although it honestly felt like reading a college essay paper... I really enjoyed this. I thought the examples of celebrities there were used were well thought out, though they were primarily white women. ( )

I think this is a very necessary book to have been written. I wholeheartedly approve of the message. ( )

As a wanna-be librarian and lifelong reader, the chapter on Jennifer Weiner alone is worth grabbing this book. ( )

First of all, this title is Too Long, Too Wordy and I am getting Too Tired writing it out.

Second, despite the unwieldy title, this was a great read. Petersen kept her introduction short, letting the reader know the set up of the book without giving everything away before the first chapter. Each chapter is headlined with a Too and an adjective, along with one famous person who embodies that excessive adjective. While I was a fan of a few of the women profiled (hi, Serena Williams is the GOAT so don't bother to @ me - okay thanks bye), some of the women I just didn't have a particular opinion or I just ignore - I like to think I am the best at scrolling past social media posts that doesn't interest me. And yet Petersen made me at least admire or would give a head nod of acknowledgment if we ever passed by each other in the local Kroger store. The only woman profiled I still didn't move my impression up into the positive is Lena Dunham; however, I think Petersen makes a great effort in giving another perspective on Dunham if not defending her.

The writing was accessible but had enough substance to chew on and think about after the chapter ended. There was research quoted and even Petersen takes the time to deconstruct (and ruin) the naysayers' arguments. This was also a fun read because well it is about the intersection of celebrity/fame and feminism done in an inclusive way. ( )
