What I love best about Colleen Coble's books is how well she writes romantic suspense!
Boone was my favorite part of Beneath Copper Falls. Well him and the dogs! I loved his character. Dana, while a strong heroine could be a bit blind but I really enjoyed the way her relationship with Boone developed.
I may have figured out who the 'Groom Reaper' was early on but that didn't take away the enjoyment I gleamed from the book. While it was obvious - to me at least - his motive wasn't.

This was the first Rock Harbor book I've read but I will definitely be catching up/continuing with the series!

I didn’t know what to expect since this was my first Rock Harbor book and I’m not sure I’ve read anything else by Colleen Coble but she is a very good mystery writer! I never saw the identity of the Groom Reaper coming and even after I was pretty sure that’s who it was, I needed the written confirmation to prove it. Very good story! I would like to read the other books in the series now.

Beneath Copper Falls by Colleen Coble features two very intriguing mysteries. Although this newest release is the sixth installment in the Rock Harbor series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

After Dana Newell's fiancé turns violent, she decides to move back to Rock Harbor where she has family and friends to support her. However, her ex, Garret Waterman, quickly tracks her down and begins threatening her. A murder also strikes close to home when her friend, Allyson Hegney is killed in an eerily similar manner as her cousin, Renee, whose case is still open. Determined to try to uncover the killer's identity, Dana joins forces Allyson's cousin and Renee's brother, Boone Carter, to investigate the deaths. Is it just a coincidence that Allyson is murdered right around the same time as Garret arrives in town? This is just of the angles that Dana and Boone are looking at as they begin looking into the unsolved murders.

Eager to put her failed relationship behind her, Dana is grateful to her brother Chris for offering to let her live with him in his newly renovated home when she moves back to Rock Harbor. Dana comes across as a little naive due to a couple of questionable decisions she has made regarding Garret. She is also quite loyal and while this is an admirable quality, when combined with her naivety, she is a little slow to realize that not everyone is as truthful and honest as she is. Dana is a personable woman whose desire to help others is her best trait as is her warm and compassionate nature.

Boone has built a successful business and he is well regarded in the community. He despairs his sister's killer will ever be found and although three years have passed since her death, Boone still reaches out to the detective on her case on a regular basis. When Allyson is murdered in Rock Harbor, he quickly hones in on the similarities to his sister's death. Due to circumstances of the end of his previous relationship, Boone is quite leery of becoming involved with Dana despite his growing feelings for her.

The relationship between Boone and Dana is sweet but not without a few obstacles for this lovely couple to overcome. Boone's situation presents a valuable lesson in the importance of character over looks. Despite how badly Dana misjudged Garret, she is still willing to take a chance on love and it is quite refreshing to see that she refuses to let her previous experience prevent her from exploring the possibility of a new relationship with Boone.

Although it is fairly easy to guess the murderer's identity fairly early in the story, Beneath Copper Falls is still an engrossing mystery. Dana and Boone are appealing characters and their romance is an absolute joy to watch unfold. With some unexpected twists and unanticipated turns, Colleen Coble brings the novel to a very action-packed, exciting conclusion. A nice addition to the Rock Harbor series that old and new fans will enjoy. ( )

Beneath Copper Falls by Colleen Coble is a crime thriller/romance for lovers of fast paced novels. This is the sixth book in the Rock Harbor series, but fear not, it can be read as a stand-alone. Since I have not read the others in the series, I can honestly say that I suffered no ill effects.

After leaving an abusive relationship, Dana Newell has returned home to the UP of Michigan and has a job waiting for her as a 911 dispatcher. She is excited to see her brother, her friends and have her life return to normal. She moves in with her brother and starts the process of rebuilding.

It appears nothing is going to work in Dana’s favor and a normal life is looking like a pipe dream. Especially considering that as soon as she arrives home in Michigan, her ex-boyfriend shows up and starts stalking her. Then on Dana’s first day at work she handles the 911 call from her friend Allyson an investigative reporter. She immediately dispatches the sheriff but it is too late. Allyson’s death is ruled an accident; but, Dana suspects otherwise. Allyson was working with Boone, a close friend of Dana’s brother, to solve the murder of his sister. Is there a serial killer about? Could Dana’s ex be mixed up in this somehow? Dana and Boone will have to learn to trust each other and work together if they are going to solve these crimes before someone else is murdered.

I loved that the opening grabbed me and willed me to keep reading from the get go. The pace was fast but not rushed and even though I figured out who the killer was early on; I found this did not detract from the story. There was enough other stuff going on to keep me reading. The intertwining relationship interjected a sense of realism I sometimes find lacking in thrillers. In addition, thrillers sometimes use action as a cover up for poorly developed characters, which is not the case here.

Beneath Copper Falls is a solid crime thriller that begs to be read in one sitting. It is perfect for those readers who love crime thrillers with a light touch of romance.

Dana Newell is a 911 dispatcher looking for a change in her life and a way to escape her abusive, sometimes scary, boyfriend. She decides to move back to Rock Harbor knowing she’ll get support from good friends. It feels good to her to be in familiar surroundings again even with the sad memories related to Rock Harbor. It doesn’t take long though for things to take a dangerous turn. She’s afraid her ex-boyfriend is stalking her, then she answers a call at work and is horrified when she hears her friend’s screams on the other end of the phone. Boone Carter loved being a smoke jumper until an accident left his face permanently scarred and his fiancé walked out. Now he’s an outfitter and loves it. When Boone and Dana meet there’s an immediate connection. But Boone knows that both love and women are fickle. Dana knows that love can be scary. As they strike up a friendship, Dana tries to help Boone figure out who killed his sister since the police don’t seem to have a clue. When tragedy strikes again, Boone and Dana begin gathering clues. But what they discover is so much more than anyone could have ever imagined.

Wow! Another edge-of-your-seat-thrill-ride-of-a-story by Colleen Coble. I loved returning once again to Rock Harbor and mingling with the familiar folks I’ve come to know and love in the previous stories. Bree, Samson, Kade, Lauri and others are all part of this story which made it really special. Get ready though to set aside some time because once you start you will be hard pressed to put it down. There were several twists and turns along the way and things I didn’t expect or anticipate. One thing I really appreciated was the idea that we should not worry so much about what we look like on the outside but more about what’s on the inside. I think that’s so important and that’s really what God does. He doesn’t look on the outward but on the heart. This is a must-read for Rock Harbor fans, that said, you could read this with no problem if you haven’t read any other books in this series. So, grab your hot chocolate, get comfortable in your favorite easy chair and head for Rock Harbor and find out what happened Beneath Copper Falls.

Some favorite moments:

“The scars don’t define you. Who you really are inside is what matters.

She’d spent too much of her life worrying about the face she presented to the world and much too little on the character she needed to be developing every day.

We are just to be faithful with our lives and our words. If the Holy Spirit prompts you, then be faithful to what he has told you.”
