This book tells of the 1942 Doolittle Raid, which was in retaliation for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. 16 bombers, each with a crew of 5 men, flew over Japan targeting Tokyo and several other cities. The raid caused little damage materially but was extremely successful psychologically, as Japan had never before been attacked. At first, I had a difficult time getting into the book- there were a lot of men to keep track of and it spent some time talking about the weapons and aircrafts, which was not particularly interesting to me. However, this book taught me a lot about the dynamics in play before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and I felt it did a wonderful job showing the bravery of the men and Chinese citizens who risked their lives to help them. Raid of No Return (Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tale # 7): A World War II Tale of the Doolittle Raid by Nathan Hale is a fast moving graphic novel about 16 United States bombers on a dangerous secret mission assignment to fly the United State’s first aircraft carrier during World War II after the 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor. During the day of the raid, the bombers were spotted by the Japanese causing them to bomb early. After the bombing, the stories of the 16 bombers are either crashed and captured although many ended up in mainland China and were carried to safety by Chinese villagers but also being hunted by Japanese forces. Themes that can be found in this graphic novel are bravery, war, and heartbreak. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

HTML: Nathan Hale tackles a topic fans have been asking about for years: World War II. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, officially bringing the United States into World War II. A new generation of pilots were recruited to fly bombing missions for the United States, and from that group, volunteers were requested for a dangerous secret assignment. For the first time in American history, Army bombers would be launched from an aircraft carrier. Once at sea, they were told their mission was a retaliation strike against targets in Tokyo. But on the day of the raid, a Japanese patrol boat spotted them and they had to launch early, with barely enough fuel to get them past their target. After the bombing, some pilots crashed, some were captured, and many ended up in mainland China and were carried to safety by Chinese villagers, being hunted by Japanese forces all the while. With tales of high-flying action and bravery, Raid of No Return is a story of heartbreak and survival during wartime. . Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

anyway.... great history, very focused on a particular bombing run and what it took to get there and the aftermath. Super appealing to boy history or adventure fans, really complicated story well told. ( )
